Why all terrorists belong to one community, asks Giriraj Singh

Bokaro, May 14 (ANI): BJP leader Giriraj Singh on Wednesday stoked yet another controversy by asking why all terrorists belong to one particular community. He said that though he didn't mean to say that everyone belonging to that particular community is a terrorist, and that all the 'secular parties' keep mum when all the person arrested in terrorism are from one community. Further, expressing his views on Article 370, Singh said that a referendum needs to be done on whether it is validated and required or not.

Govt appoints Lt Gen Dalbir Singh Suhag as new Army Chief

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): The UPA Government has named Lieutenant General Dalbir Singh Suhag as the country's next Army Chief. Lt Gen Dalbir Singh is currently serving as the Vice Chief of Army Staff and will take over from General Bikram Singh who is set to retire on July 31. The Election Commission on Monday had given its assent to the Central Government to appoint the next army chief. The poll panel has given its go ahead to the Defence Ministry to start the process of appointing the new army chief. Citing its March 27 order, the poll panel said that decisions related to the defence ministry are not covered by the Model Code of Conduct.

CPI (M) calls for re-polling in Kolkata

Kolkata, May 14 (ANI): Communist party of India (Marxist) accused the ruling Trinamool Congress of West Bengal of rigging the polls and calls for re-polling at various polling stations in Kolkata city. TMC leaders said on Monday that the media is hyping up a few minor clashes that took place during the last phase of polling between party supporters and the CPI (M) workers. Crude bombs were also hurled at the residence of BJP leader Meena Devi Purohit, in Kolkata city on Monday. However, the bombs did not explode. Hundreds of supporters and leaders of CPI (M) marched on the roads of Kolkata demanding re polling. Incidents of violence were reported at several polling booths and police said at least thirteen people were injured.

At least 200 dead, several injured after coal mine explosion in Turkey

Turkey, May 14 (ANI): A fire caused by a transformer explosion at a coal mine in Western Turkey early Wednesday has left at least 200 workers dead and scores injured. Energy Ministry Taner Yildiz said 787 people had been inside the mine at Soma in Manisa province when an electrical fault triggered the blast. Rescuers worked through the night to try to reach hundreds more miners still trapped underground. Almost 363 of those trapped had been rescued. Rescue workers pumped oxygen into the mine to keep those trapped by the blaze alive, as thousands of family members and fellow workers, clamoring for information, gathered outside the town's hospital.

Security guards detain one anticipating security threat to Mahabodhi temple

Bodhgaya, May 14 (ANI): The district police of Gaya in Bihar detained a visitor anticipating a security threat over his controversial remark after being barred from entering the Mahabodhi temple premises with his mobile phone. The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) detained the visitor-a monk, Aanand from Maharashtra, when he insisted on carrying his mobile phone inside the temple premises, despite safety restrictions. He was barred by the security authorities, which led to an altercation and the monk reportedly said that another bomb blast would take place at the temple. However, the detained Aanand denied all allegations when asked about his threat of a bomb blast.

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): Indian markets are so confident the BJP led by Narendra Modi will win the country's elections that brokers fear anything short of a decisive victory could spark the worst sell-off in years. Reacting over this, RBI governor Raghuram Rajan said that measures are in place to check any kind of volatility in the markets in next few days. Rajan said this after meeting Finance Minister P Chidambaram, who asked regulators to remain alert and take necessary actions to curb excessive volatility. Exit polls for the world's biggest election indicate that voters have turfed out the coalition government led by the Congress party, which has presided over a slump in economic growth and been troubled by a string of corruption scandals.

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is tipped to form the next government with many exit polls projecting a clear majority for the coalition in the just-concluded Lok Sabha elections. BJP leader and a close confidant of the party's prime ministerial candidate, Narendra Modi, Amit Shah claimed that the NDA would get seats close to 300, with Uttar Pradesh contributing the maximum of 50-55 seats to the final tally.

Politicos view Obama's statement as compliment to nation's democracy

New Delhi, May 14 (ANI): Political leaders greeted US President Barack Obama's reiteration that the White House looks forward to working with India's new government as a compliment to Indian democracy. Obama commended India on the success of holding the largest democratic election on Monday (May 12), and added that the US looks forward to working with the new government. Media relations RSS, Ram Madhav viewed the statement of the American President as a compliment to Indian democracy. Congress leader Satyavrat Chaturvedi commented on the respect that India commands globally, citing the peaceful manner in which the election was conducted in the world's biggest democracy. However, BJP leader Balbir Punj said that the statement is no concession, rather an admission of error of judgement towards Narendra Modi.
