EC bans victory processions in UP, Congress welcomes

New Delhi/ Lucknow, May 15 (ANI): Election Commission on Thursday banned victory processions after the announcement of poll results in UP. Chief Electoral Officer of the state, Umesh Sinha said that the poll panel also tightened security across the state in order to prevent any violence on Friday. High alert has been sounded in 20 districts, including those in the western parts of the State that have been identified as "sensitive" following intelligence reports of threat to law and order. Welcoming the move, Congress leader Meem Afzal said that it is good that the panel has taken cognizance of the violence that took place earlier in the state.

Luscious varieties of 'King of Fruits' lure crowds to Mango Festival in Goa

Goa, May 15 (ANI): The ongoing Mango Festival in Goa drew a huge crowd of visitors from across the country to savor the delicious taste and tempting flavour of the fruit that is rightly dubbed the 'King of Fruits.' The festival which began on May 13, has been organized by the Directorate of Agriculture, Government of Goa and National Horticulture mission and will conclude today. Around 60 varieties were on display, including the Alphonso, Totapuri, Malgoa and Bhishma, besides others. Interactive sessions and seminars were also held by experts who informed people about mango production technologies, ultra high density planting as well as pest and disease management.

AIADMK expels K Malaisamy for suggesting alliance with NDA, TRS too follows suit

New Delhi/ Hyderabad, May 15 (ANI): AIADMK Chief and Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Thursday expelled former MP K Malaisamy from the party for suggesting that she would support Narendra Modi led NDA government. His expulsion came a day after his remark on the possibility of ties between BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi and Jayalalithaa after the announcement of election results on May 16. Jayalalithaa said that Malaisamy was expelled because he had acted in violation of party's principles and ideologies. And that he has brought disrepute and bad name to the party. Meanwhile, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) chief K Chandrashekar Rao's daughter K Kavitha also said that the party is not keen to support BJP-led NDA after the result announcement as they had 'some issues' with the NDA.

Jamshedpur, May 17 (ANI): A unique fan of Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit Nene celebrated diva's birthday with much pomp and show in India's Jamshedpur city in eastern province of Jharkhand. Pappu Sardar, who has been celebrating the actress' birthday for more than a decade now, cut a cake on her behalf and wished for a prosperous life as he held a small function. Dixit, who is accounted among the most accomplished actors in the Indian film industry, turned 47 today. Madhuri has charmed her fans with her most enchanting smile and amazing dancing moves. Pappu Sardar, who owns a food stall, organised a lavish party at midnight which began with a prayer session and ended with dance and jubilation on the streets. Pappu had the whole colony decorated with lights, ribbons and balloons, put many photographs of Dixit on display and prayed for her success. Many other people also joined him in the celebrations. The fans danced together to the tunes of some of the famous songs of Madhuri. The actress made her acting debut in 1984 and was a rage in the 90s by delivering one super hit after the another. Some of her mega blockbusters include 'Saajan', 'Hum Aapke Hain Kaun', 'Dil Toh Pagal Hai' and 'Devdas'.

Speculations on CBI's autonomy during NDA govt surfaces as polls result approach

New Delhi, May 15 (ANI): As the results of 2014 general elections are to be out on Friday, speculations on CBI's autonomy during the NDA government surfaced. BJP leader Capt Abhimanyu said that the party wants to make sure that there is no corruption in the country and that the CBI will be free agency. Congress leader Meem Afzal and Rashid Alvi said that CBI was totally free during the UPA government and that future government will tell how CBI will work.
