UP Governor BL Joshi resigns

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Amid reports that NDA government wants to replace governors appointed by its predecessor, Uttar Pradesh governor BL Joshi tendered his resignation on Tuesday. He has sent his resignation papers to the Home Ministry. Joshi's tenure was to end next month. His resignation could be the start of more such exits of the state governors after the new BJP government took over last month. Home Ministry sources say other UPA-appointed governors who still have two years or more to complete their term are likely to come under pressure as the government has asked President Pranab Mukherjee to ask for their resignations soon. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy had said today that the governors should resign themselves as they were appointed by Sonia Gandhi and not on merit.

Advani meets Yashwant Sinha at Hazaribagh jail

Hazaribagh, June 17 (ANI): Senior BJP leader LK Advani on Tuesday met former union minister Yashwant Sinha, who is in judicial custody in Jharkhand. On Monday Sinha's judicial custody was extended till June 28. He was arrested on June 02 for leading a demonstration at the Electricity Board office in Hazaribagh town of Jharkhand and was sent to 14 days' judicial custody next day after he refused to furnish the bail bond. A local court on Monday extended the judicial remand of the senior Jharkhand BJP leader till June 28 as he did not move for bail in connection with the alleged assault of a senior government official earlier this month.

Finance Minister says hoarding behind rising prices, politicos react

New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Political leaders on Tuesday reacted over Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley's remark in which he attributed the rising inflation to the hoarding of food stocks. He said that Centre is committed to ease supply side bottlenecks and has also asked states to take firm measures against hoarders to check speculation. New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Politicos reacted after NDA government started nudging six Congress-appointed governors to quit. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that they should resign by themselves as they were not appointed on any credit. Meanwhile, Congress leader Rashid Alvi and NCP leader Tariq Anwar said that governor is a non-political position and should not have been handled in such a way. New Delhi, June 17 (ANI): Addressing a rally of e-rickshaw owners and drivers at the Ramlila Maidan in the national capital, union transport minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday announced that the Delhi government won't ban the e-rickshaws, bringing relief to at least 2 lakh rickshaw drivers. Gadkari added that each e-rickshaw would be allowed to carry four passengers and luggage up to 50 kgs.

Actress Khushboo quits DMK

Chennai, June 17 (ANI): Actor-politician Khushbu, one of the most prominent faces of the DMK, has quit the party and reportedly hit out at the party leadership for ignoring her "hard work". Khushboo, a star campaigner of the M Karunanidhi-led DMK, announced her decision to quit the party on a day when it announced plans to restructure its district units as part of its revamp plan to prepare for the 2016 assembly elections. Reacting over this DMK spokesperson TKS Elangovan said that Khushboo has not given any reason for her resignation but it seems she was not happy in the party. He added if she had brought in notice her problems in front of the senior leaders and party head before resigning, surely her problems would have been solved. He also said that Khushboo carried out a spirited campaign in the Lok Sabha elections, and losing her would be a great loss.
