CRPF disposes off IED bomb in Assam

Assam, Aug 10 (ANI): The Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) disposed off a pressure-sensitive Improvised Explosive Device (IED) bomb discovered in Nagain district of Assam. The bomb was concealed in a tiffin box. He added that the bomb had been disposed off after exploding it with TNT.

Vintage cars rally in India's IT hub, spreading awareness on women's safety

Bangalore, Aug 10 (ANI): A rally of vintage cars was taken out in Bangalore by the Karnataka Vintage and Classic Car Club on Sunday to create awareness on, 'respect and safety for women. The rally covered around 5 kilometers in the city. Many women dignitaries like Indian classical danseuse Vani Ganapathy, Indian athlete Reeth Abraham, and Former Indian swimmer Nisha Millet, were present at the event. Grand old cars which were used by the Maharajas, industrialists and other noted celebrities of yesteryears were part of the drive, one of them belonging to the father of the first Indian Prime Minsiter, Jawaharlal Nehru. Lanchester, Hillman, Wolseley, Jaguars, Fords, Chevrolets, Austin's, Morris' etc, rallied in the City.

Five persons killed as car falls in Narmada canal

Vadodara, Aug 10 (ANI): At least five persons were killed on Sunday when their car fell into Narmada canal at a village in Chhota Udaipur district of Gujarat, police said. All five youths between 20 to 30 years of age, in the car were travelling back after getting rakhi tied by their sisters on the occasion of Rakshabandhan. The victims were on their way to Lajpura village in Chhota Udepur when the accident occurred.

'Singham Returns' starcast launch new range of watches in Mumbai

Mumbai, Aug 10 (ANI): The starcast of the film, 'Singham Returns', actors Ajay Devgan and Kareena Kapoor along with director Rohit Shetty, attended launch of a new range of watches to promote their film in showbiz capital Mumbai. 'Singham Returns' is a cop drama and is a sequel to the 2011 similar- themed movie, 'Singham'. Narrating about his character, Devgan said that it is obviously very similar to his character in the prequel since it is essentially the same character. Film also features a song by rapper YoYo Honey Singh. The song 'Aata Majhi Satakli' reportedly crossed one million views on the YouTube in just one day. On being asked how Shetty came to be associated with Honey Singh, Shetty referred the question to Kareena Kapoor and the rapper fan said that this was the best time for both to come together.

Child from war-torn Iraq gets new life by the help of Indian doctors

Gurgaon, Aug 10 (ANI): A child from war-torn Iraq got a new life with the efforts of Indian doctors. The13-year-old Iraqi boy was operated at a speciality hospital in Gurgaon. In June, Iraqi child Hayder Hamid Haloob was going with his family to their fields to cut the wheat crop on the outskirts of the holy city of Karbala — bordering the ISIS-controlled Jurf-Al-Sakhar area — when a landmine went off. The blast killed his uncle who was driving, and left his mother and aunt with shrapnel injuries in their arms and shoulders. Neuro Surgeon, Doctor Sandeep Vaish said that the child’s condition was very critical when he was brought from Iraq. Vaish informed that there was a metal nut at back side of the child’s head which might have pierced inside during the bomb blast.

Women tie rakhis to soldiers guarding Indo-Pak border on Raksha Bandhan

Amritsar, Aug 10 (ANI): Women on Sunday tied rakhis on wrists of soldiers guarding India’s border in Punjab to mark the auspicious occasion of Raksha Bandhan. The soldiers were elated and deeply touched. Border Security Force (BSF) Commandant Officer Wagah Border, Satish Kumar, expressed his gratitude and said the gesture by students and women was rewarding for each one of them. The girls were highly pleased and felt proud in tying rakhi on the wrists of soldiers. A school student, Vidisha, said BSF personnel are not able to unite with their families on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan and tying rakhi to them felt good as they sacrifice their lives performing their duty towards the nation.

As Independence Day draws closer, the noise of sewing machines at the Assam Khadi Village and Industries Board in Guwahati gets louder with several women workers of the board making national flags made of Khadi. The workers are aware that Khadi flags are in demand in government offices as the sale of plastic flags has been banned. Workers said with the flags being made out of Khadi, the significance of the national flag has been reinforced.

Congress workers stage unique protest against inflation in Bhopal

Bhopal, Aug 10 (ANI): Congress party members held protest against skyrocketing prices of food and essential commodities in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh on Sunday. Party leader Sangita Sharma tied rakhis on the wrists of the male protesters. Locals throng traditional snake boat race in Kerala

Alleppey, Aug 10 (ANI): Locals thronged the 62nd edition of the traditional Nehru Trophy Boat Race held at Punnamada Lake where Oarsmen raced furiously in Alleppey city of Kerala. The snake boat race, also known as the Nehru trophy boat race heralded the tourist season in Kerala Kerala Governor Sheila Dikshit flagged off the boat race. At least 38 people died in plane crash in Iran

Tehran, Aug 10 (ANI): An Iranian passenger plane crashed on Sunday while taking off from an airport near the capital Tehran, killing at least 38 people onboard. According to state media, an Iran-140 Sepahan Air passenger plane bound for Tabas in northeast Iran with 48 passengers and crew on board crashed on a road near Tehran's Mehrabad airport. Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) said that eight or nine had survived and quoted a doctor as saying that one of the injured had regained consciousness. State television said 38 people died instantly and 10 were injured and were transferred to hospital in critical condition.
