Bharat Ratna speculation sparks debate

New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): Soon after news came in that former PM Atal Behari Vajpayee and freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose might be awarded the Bharat Ratna, the Modi government ran into a fresh controversy. Political parties have suggested more names. The Congress suggested the names of freedom fighters, meanwhile the Shiv Sena has pitched for activist Vinayak Damodar Savarkar to be conferred the Bharat Ratna.

RSS chief criticized for 'Hindutva' comment, Shiv Sena welcomes same

New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat on Monday was criticized by political leaders for his 'Hindutva' comment. Bhagwat had questioned that if inhabitants of England are English, Germany are Germans and USA are Americans then why all inhabitants of Hindustan are not known as Hindus. He had said that the cultural identity of all Indians is Hindutva and the present inhabitants of the country are descendants of this great culture. Meanwhile, RSS leader Sanjay Raut welcomed the statement and said that this is a great thought which should prosper among people all over the nation.

Pakistan's ISI fuels sectarian violence in Gilgit

Gilgit Baltistan, Aug 11: Annexed from the erstwhile princely state of Jammu and Kashmir, Gilgit Baltistan has been controlled by Pakistan for decades now. Since the setting up of the de facto provincial government in Gilgit Baltistan in 2009, Islamabad's exploitation of the region has gained momentum. The strategically located region suffers from sectarian violence, militancy and poverty. In recent years, there has been a sudden rise in incidents of sectarian violence between Shias, Sunnis and other communities including Ismaili and Nurbakshi. The nationalist leaders blame Pakistan's spy agency, the ISI, for enforcing 'divide and rule' policy in the region.

Politicos welcome Mohan Bhagwat's reminder to BJP of its contribution in 2014 win

New Delhi/ Bhubaneshwar, Aug 11 (ANI): Political leaders welcome RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat when he said that the BJP came to power at the Centre because the common man wanted change. The statement came as a Disagreement with the suggestion that the BJP's victory was the result of Narendra Modi and Amit Shah's sole efforts. Bihar by polls: Lalu, Nitish to share dais during campaign today

Body found at Congress leader Kumari Selja's house

New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): A body of 42-year-old servant was found at Congress leader Kumari Selja's house in the national capital on Monday. The body is identified be of Sanjay, a daily wager. The police is investigating the case and probing the cause of death. A team of forensic experts have also reached the venue to investigate the incident. It is yet not clear whether the Congress leader was present in the house at the time of the incident. More details are awaited.

Pak violates ceasefire, 2 jawans and 2 civilians injured

Jammu, Aug 11 (ANI): In yet another violation of ceasefire by Pakistan, its troops resorted to unprovoked firing at several Indian positions on the international border in Jammu district in the wee hours of Monday. According to Police sources, two Border Security Force (BSF) troopers - Head Constable Sunil Kumar and Constable Bishnoi, along with two civilians- were injured when the Pakistani army resorted to unprovoked firing at four places in the RS Pura area of the international border early this morning. The BSF retaliated the Pakistan firing effectively.

Doctors confirm Guinea returned man unaffected with Ebola virus

Chennai, Aug 11 (ANI): Doctor discharged a Guinea returned native of Chennai in Tamil Nadu on finding him unaffected with Ebola virus. The 26-year-old Parthiban from Theni district was taken to the Rajiv Gandhi(RG) Government General Hospital immediately after he landed from the West African country. Regional Medical Officer at RG General Hospital Dr. Elango, confirmed that he has been allowed to return to his home town as the test results on his immunity showed no signs of infection. The Ministry of Health, in coordination with the Ministries of Home Affairs (immigration Department), External Affairs and Civil Aviation, is constantly tracking passengers arriving in India from the West African countries affected by Ebola.

Politicos welcome Pak PM's remark for better relations with India

New Delhi, Aug 11 (ANI): Political leaders across India welcomed Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif's remark to better the relationship between the two neighbouring countries. Reportedly, Sharif, while addressing a conference in Islamabad, expressed his regret and dissatisfaction regarding the relationship of his country with its neighbours, especially India. Congress leader Rajeev Shukla welcomed Sharif's remark and said it was a positive development for the two countries. BJP leader Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said it was high time leaders of the two nations joined hands for a friendly relationship. Meanwhile, Defense Expert Praful Bakshi said he was surprised by this statement as it was not easy for a leader to make such remarks amid army personnel in Pakistan and said it was a good sign.

Relatives of likely Bharat Ratna awardees react on speculations over same

Allahabad/ Raipur/ Rourkela/ Kolkata, Aug 11 (ANI): The government ordered five medallions, bringing names of freedom fighter Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and former Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to the forefront to receive this year's Bharat Ratna awards. Another noted name in the Indian freedom movement, Madan Mohan Malviya is also rumoured to be one of the five persons to be honoured. Relatives of the speculated nominees have expressed happiness over the buzz. Malviya's grand daughter-in-law, Saraswati Malviya thanked the Narendra Modi-led government and said that the award should have been bestowed earlier. On hearing rumours of the highest civilian award being bestowed upon the former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee, his niece expressed her pride.

Coimbatore goldsmith makes world's smallest gold flag ahead of India's 68th Independence Day

Coimbatore, Aug 11 (ANI): To show his love for his motherland, a goldsmith belonging to Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu designed the world's smallest flag made of gold. The goldsmith, UMT Raja said that he made the miniature version of the Indian flag using only 4 mg of gold, making it the smallest in the world. Besides the flag, Raja also made a miniature model depicting the Indian freedom movement using gold, which includes the Indian flag and a model of great freedom fighter Mahatma Gandhi. The whole movement is depicted on a matchstick, which Raja painted in saffron, white and green colours.

Police arrest Maoist in Jharkhand

Latehar, Aug 11 (ANI): Police arrested a Maoist in Latehar district in the red corridor of Jharkhand. The Maoist, Mukesh Kumar Yadav, is the area commander of a rebel outfit, People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI) and was arrested after police received secret information. Briefing media persons, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), Rosan Gudiya said that it is big achievement for police as Yadav was booked under multiple cases of dacoity, killings and kidnappings. Police also seized a home made country pistol and two revolvers from Yadav. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.
