Manipuri artisan awarded for her contribution towards handloom

Imphal, Sep 21 (ANI): L Subadini Devi, a resident of Wangkhei Tokpam Leikai in Imphal East district, is the proud recipient of Sant Kabir Award for her contribution towards the handloom sector. She received the prestigious award from the President in July this year. Born to a traditional weaver’s family, Subadini has been engaged in the craft for more than 50 years. She has participated in a number of exhibitions and has received numerous awards for excellence in handloom, including a national award for textile designing. Subadini started Nongdon Lairembi Wool Knitting Cum Embroidery Centre in 1984 and produces Sarees, kwang phanek, bed cover, marriage sets and a cotton sheet called Ningtham Samjin. Presently, she employs six artisans at the Centre and several other weavers work from different places under her guidance.

Sports minister confident of good performance in 17th Asian Games as India bags 2 medals on Day-1

New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Saturday said that the Indian contingent will perform well in 17th Asian Games at Incheon, basking in the glory of two medals won on Day-1. New Delhi, Sep 20 (ANI): Tibetan Spiritual leader Dalai Lama said on Saturday that Chinese President Xi Jinping was more open-minded in judging sorrows and handling principles. On the sidelines of a two-day spiritual conclave in New Delhi, the Dalai Lama also addressed India-China issue, saying the only option to resolve issues was through mutual trust. India and China have a strained relationship largely because of a border dispute. Navy officials, children mark International Coastal Cleanup Day

Visakhapatnam, Sep 20 (ANI): Navy officials, along with their families and schoolchildren, lifted garbage from beaches in Visakhapatnam to mark the 29th International Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday. Chief of staff of Eastern Naval Command, Vice Admiral Bimal Verma, flagged off the drive called 'Fighting for trash-free seas' at the Kursura Museum. More than 1,500 citizens of Visakhapatnam and about 3,000 Naval personnel and their families participated in the event. Indian Coast Guard and Visakhapatnam unit of Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages joined hands with Ocean Conservancy to undertake a massive cleanup at Rishikonda beach.

MoU signed on Nalanda University between India and Bangladesh: MEA
