Reactions flow in after suspected object found in PM Modi's stand by plane

New Delhi/Gurgaon/Noida, Oct 4 (ANI): Reactions flowed in on Saturday after a defused bomb was found inside an Air India aircraft that was put on standby for Modi's US trip. Indian Airlines Flight Safety Former Director Captain SS Panesar said that the issue is very serious and a high level inquiry should take place. Retired Wing Commander Praful Bakshi said that the inquiry must take place and should not be kept under wraps. Retired Air Vice Marshal Kapil Kak said that there was complete lack of accountability on the part of the security forces.

JKNPP protest as food grains meant for J and K flood victims rot

Jammu/Srinagar, Oct 4 (ANI): Members of Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party staged a hunger strike in Jammu city, demanding stringent action against officials responsible for the rotting of food grains meant for flood victims. District administration of Udhampur dumped the soiled relief material in a community hall, which has been rotting on a railway station. JKNPP MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia demanded probe into the incident. The government of Jammu and Kashmir has decided to provide free ration -50 kilogram each -to the flood affected families for six months. The ration will be available at all district offices of the Consumer Affairs and Public Distribution (CAPD).

Karnal, Oct 04 (ANI): Ahead of assembly polls to be conducted in Haryana and Maharashtra, Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick started the election campaign on Saturday. Addressing a rally in Haryana's Karnal district Modi said that to ensure development of the state, people need to vote for a Congress-free government. Modi said that the Haryana government is spreading lies and saying that the central government has stopped exporting Basmati rice. However, in reality, Congress in Haryana has imposed 4 per cent tax. The PM further said that Congress government did not do anything for pilgrims travelling to Kailash Mansarovar yatra whereas Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) opened a new road to facilitate their travel. Modi said that to determine a better future for the state, people have to vote for Congress-free Haryana. He added that people need to elect a stable government in Haryana with majority which will allow him to do work in the state. He added that the party had initiated 'Prime Minister Krishi Sinchai Yojana' and 'Jan Dhan yojana' for the poor.

Mong Kok tense after violence

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): The tension in the Mong Kok district of Hong Kong was evident in the wake of the clashes overnight between pro-democracy protesters and their opponents. The democracy campaigners are vowing to carry on regardless. Some are accusing the pro-Beijing opposition of orchestrated harassment. Police said they'd arrested 19 people since Friday, including suspected members of the infamous Triad gangs. The pro-democracy protesters are demanding the resignation of Hong Kong's chief executive, which he's rejected. They also want China to reverse a decision to hand-pick the contenders in the 2017 election for a new chief executive, which Beijing opposes.

Two Maoists surrender in Chhattisgarh

Bijapur, Oct 4 (ANI): Two Maoists surrendered in Bijapur district of Chhattisgarh due to discriminatory policies by the Naxal organization. The two rebels surrendered after they got to know about the rehabilitation programme for the Maoists and they were also awarded with rupees 10,000 each. The two Maoists have been identified as Yalam Samaiya and Dubba Kanhaiya and they were working for 10 years with a Maoist organization. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.

AIADMK workers hold 'silent protest' in support of Jayalalithaa

Chennai, Oct 4 (ANI): AIADMK workers on Saturday staged a silent hunger protest in Chennai demanding the release of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa was convicted guilty in the disproportionate assets case and is sentenced to four years of imprisonment. More than 100 AIADMK workers along with seven from DMDK sat near the statue of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MG Ramachandran holding placards. AIADMK Chief's supporters feel the verdict was nothing but political vengeance. Meanwhile, her bail plea hearing has been adjourned till October 7 next week.

Politicos react after at least 33 trampled to death in Patna stampede

New Delhi, Oct 4 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Saturday after at least 33 people were killed and many others were injured in stampede that took place at Gandhi Maidan in Patna when people were returning from Dussehra celebrations. BJP leaders Sambit Patra said that the incident is painful and compensations have been announced by the central and the state government. Congress leader Rashid Alvi slammed the state government and said that had the administration taken proper steps, the incident would have not occurred. Other political leaders also blamed the administration for the mishap.

ISIS releases another video beheading British citizen, UK and US vows to bring justice

New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Islamic State militants fighting in Iraq and Syria released a video which purported to show the beheading of a man identified as British citizen Alan Henning. The video showed a man in an orange jumpsuit kneeling in a landscape who was identified as Henning. The kneeling man in the video says, "Because of our parliament's decision to attack the Islamic State, I, as a member of the British public, will now pay the price for that decision,". A male voice then says, "The blood of David Haines was on your hands Cameron," in a reference to Britain's prime minister. "Alan Henning will also be slaughtered, but his blood is on the hands of the British parliament." Reacting on the same, Cameron vowed to bring the killers to justice.

Major Fire in Agra's Lohar Gali guts over 250 shops

Agra, Oct 04 (ANI): A major fire broke out early on Saturday morning in the famed Lohar Gali area of Agra. Over 250 shops were gutted and several residential flats got damaged in the fire that broke out in a famous market in Agra city of Uttar Pradesh. Around eight fire brigade vans were called in to control the blaze that began at around 2:00 AM. Locals also raised the need for calling the military. However, no reports of casualty or injury were reported.

Sacrificial livestock prices rise across nation ahead of Eid al-Adha

Bijnor/ Patna, Oct 04 (ANI): Livestock prices across India jumped drastically over the last two weeks, despite assurances from authorities that there would not be any significant rise in prices. Prices of sacrificial animals go up every year ahead of Eid al-Adha, which will be celebrated on Monday across the country. Livestock prices have shoot up in Bijnor city and Patna city. Eid-al-Adha, also known as the Festival of Sacrifice, is a Muslim festival which commemorates the obedience of the prophet Ibrahim, who was willing to sacrifice his son when ordered to by God. Eid-al-Adha (Bakr-Eid) is a festival that many Muslims celebrate with special prayers, greetings and gifts.

Unprovoked firing by Pak rangers leave at least one dead, four injured in Poonch

Poonch/New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Unprovoked firing and ceasefire violations by Pakistani Rangers at Indian positions along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir left one dead and injures four civilians. Some civilians sustained injuries while some lost their houses. The entire Gagrian village in the Poonch sector was affected due to firing. Senior Superintendent of Police Shamsher Hussain said there was huge amount of Mortar Shelling and firing was been carried out from both the sides. Meanwhile, Indian troops also retaliated in Saujian area of Poonch sector. However, JD (U) Leader Ali Anwar said it is a very serious matter and India should initiate the dialogue process.

Indian wrestling team arrives in New Delhi after bagging medals in Asiad

New Delhi, Oct 04 (ANI): Indian wrestlers Yogeshwar Dutt and Bajrang arrived in New Delhi on Saturday after bagging gold and silver medal respectively at the 17th Asian Games held in Incheon in South Korea. Dutt outshone Tajikistan's Zalimkhan Yusupov in the men's 65 kg freestyle wrestling match by 1-0, whereas Bajrang had to settle with a silver medal after losing the men's freestyle 61kg final match with 1-3 score to Iran. His compatriot Narsingh Pancham Yadav settled for a bronze in 74kg freestyle. Speaking to mediapersons, Dutt expressed his happiness over the win. Meanwhile, former wrestler and team’s coach, Satpal Singh lauded the sportspersons for bringing accolades to the country.
