Arun Jaitley launches 'Kisan Vikas Patra' to lure small investors

New Delhi, Nov 18 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Tuesday re-launched a certificate savings scheme in New Delhi to encourage investment for country's development. In a bid to encourage small savings among citizens, the successful scheme known as 'Kisan Vikas Patra (KVP)' or Farmer's Development Letter was re-launched. KVP are certificates issued by government of India that can be availed in the denominations of rupees 500, rupees 1,000, rupees 5,000 and rupees 10,000 at all post offices across India. Jaitley said that this scheme was intended to keep small investors away from fraudulent schemes that make attractive bids. Meanwhile, the investment made in the certificate scheme will double in 100 months and certificates can be issued in single or joint names and is transferable. The certificate can also be pledged as security to avail loans from the banks. Nov 18, 2014

Four more crib deaths in Tamil Nadu, toll reaches nine

Dharmapuri, Nov 18 (ANI): Four more infants died at a government-run Dharmapuri Medical College Hospital in Tamil Nadu on Tuesday. Two were boys and two were girls. Of the four, one was delivered in the hospital while the other three were referred from other hospitals. All the four infants died due to being underweight because of pre-mature delivery and were suffering from respiratory problems. With the deaths on Tuesday, the toll mounted to nine after five crib deaths, which included four girls, were reported on Sunday. However, Dean of Medicine, Dharmapuri Government Hospital, Doctor Elangovan refused to take any responsibility of the deaths on behalf of the hospital. Of the five newborn babies who died on Sunday, three were underweight while the other two had respiratory problems. Reportedly, more than 20 babies are still in the hospital facing same problems and there is a fear that the death toll may increase. Nov 18, 2014

PM Narendra Modi and his Australian counterpart posed for photographs with the 2015 Cricket World Cup Trophy, along with former Indian captain Sunil Gavaskar and Kapil Dev among others. Modi also gifted an Indian "Skippers" Memento for Australia while at the MCG. The memento was signed by World Cup winning captains and the PM. Along with Australian PM Tony Abbott, present on the occasion were also Sunil Gavaskar, Kapil Dev, VVS Laxman and Allan Border. Chandigarh, Nov 18 (ANI): Haryana DGP SN Vashisht on Tuesday said that two police constables and mediapersons were injured in the clash between police and Sant Rampal's supporters in Hisar. The Haryana police and Sant Rampal's followers clashed outside the godman's Satlok Ashram in Hisar's Barwala town as the cops tried to arrest him. Vashisht said that the police is trying to handle the case with much sensitivity and that proper actions will be taken against the individual police officer who attacked the mediaperson. Meanwhile, Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar has sought a report on the attack on journalists. The police fired tear gas, used batons and water cannons to disperse Rampal's followers gathered outside the ashram to prevent his arrest and used bulldozers to break through the wall of the ashram, in which several of the disciples have been injured, according to reports.
