Two Maoists surrender before BSF in Odisha

Malkangiri, Oct 03 (ANI): Two rebels working for Communist Party of India-Maoists surrendered before paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) in Odisha on Friday. It is an achievement for BSF which has been trying to tackle the Maoist insurgency in Malkangiri district of Odisha. The Maoists, who have been identified as Laxman Pujari and Chaitanya Harijan, surrendered before BSF Deputy Inspector General, KV Raghavacharyulu, at a surrender ceremony at the BSF sector headquarters. For the first time any Maoist has surrendered before BSF in Malkangiri. But the step was welcomed by Raghavacharyulu.

L Sarita Devi defends her decision to refuse bronze medal at Asiad, says it was for India

New Delhi, Oct 03 (ANI): Indian boxer L Sarita Devi, who has been shrouded in controversy at the 17th Asian Games at Incheon, on Friday defended her refusal to accept the bronze medal. Her refusal to accept her bronze medal on the podium went against the values of sportsmanship, Asian Games organisers had said, adding they were reviewing the incident and could take action against her. Devi refused to wear the medal when it was presented to her on October 01, taking it only in her hand before trying to drape it over another competitor who had beaten her in a fight the previous day. Devi had to settle for the bronze medal after losing her lightweight semi-final on Tuesday (September 30) to South Korea's Park Ji-na, who was declared a unanimous 3-0 winner. However, the boxer defended her actions, saying she did it for her country.

Pak says India inflexible on Siachen, Indian Experts react

New Delhi, Oct 03 (ANI): Pakistan foreign ministry's remark that India has never responded positively on proposals regarding demilitarisation of Siachen in Jammu and Kashmir was slammed by the Indian Experts on Friday. While addressing a briefing in Islamabad, Pakistan's foreign ministry spokesperson Tasnim Aslam had said a proposal to demilitarise Siachen and declare it as a Peace Park had cropped up during bilateral discussions in the past, but Indian policy towards resolution of this issue always remained inflexible. Aslam said the proposal was initiated to find peaceful solutions in the region where the ecosystem is getting affected due to regular conflicts. However, Lieutenant General (retired), PN Hoon, dismissed it as nonsense. Meanwhile, former director general of police, Jammu and Kashmir, MM Khajuria, said since Pakistan lost to India in terms of acquiring hold in Siachen, they have been making such comments often. Meanwhile, retired wing commander, Praful Bakshi, said Siachen is located at a crucial place where India dominates and Pakistan cannot accept this fact. 'Bang Bang' set for a grand IMAX release

New Delhi, Oct 3 (ANI): Fox Star studios is set to release ' Bang Bang' grandly in 4000 screens in India and 250 screens in the U.S. According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Hrithik Roshan and Katrina Kaif starrer film, which is a remake of Fox's 'Knight and Day,' would be the second digitally supersized Bollywood movie from the giant of a theatre after 2013's 'Dhoom: 3.' Greg Foster, senior executive VP of IMAX Corp. and CEO of IMAX Entertainment admitted that IMAX was "excited about becoming a larger part of Bollywood movie going culture in India."

Civilians injured, houses damaged as Pak rangers resort to unprovoked firing in J and K

Poonch, Oct 03 (ANI): Some civilians sustained injuries while some lost their houses as Pakistani Rangers violated ceasefire and resorted to unprovoked firing on the Indian positions along the Line of Control in Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. The entire Gagrian village in the Poonch sector was affected in the firing. According to the villagers of Gagrian, the firing continued till midnight and almost all civilians stayed awake all night. The injured were taken to the hospital immediately. Ahmed said the entire locality got strong tremors as bombs started falling on the village. He added the government should initiate steps to find out permanent solution for people living on the India-Pakistan border.

Two militants of Hizbul Mujahideen killed in J and K encounter

Pulwama, Oct 03 (ANI): Two militants of separatist outfit Hizbul Mujahideen were killed in an encounter with security forces in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Friday. Reportedly, the security forces got information about the presence of these militants and acted upon it. The militants opened fire while the forces were closing in on the hideout of these militants. Of the two militants killed, one has been identified as Riyaz Naikoo while the other is said to be a top militant of the outfit. Hizbul Mujahideen is a Kashmiri separatist group designated as a militant organisation by India. It is active in Jammu and Kashmir since 1989. Further re-enforcement have reached the encounter site to ensure that the hiding terrorist do not succeed in escape from the area under the cover of darkness.

PM Modi shares'Mann ki Baat' on All India Radio, appeals people to buy Khadi

New Delhi, Oct 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday shared'Mann ki Baat' on All India Radio in an attempt to get connected with maximum number of people nad with those who have no access to TV. Modi urged people to buy khadi products thereby helping poor in some way. He promised to make his radio address a fortnightly occurrence, saying that he would try to speak to the nation over radio at least two Sundays a month at 11:00 AM. The prime minster also asked people to gain back their self-respect and confidence and work for a better country. He also asked people to connect to him and send their suggestions regularly. Buddhist monks in Bodh Gaya take part in 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'

Bodh Gaya, Oct 03 (ANI): Buddhist monks in holy town of Bodh Gaya in Bihar took part in cleanliness drive as a part of 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan' launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 145th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi. On Thursday, a holiday for Gandhi's birthday, Modi launched the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, to modernise sanitation within five years. A Buddhist monk, Ajay said that Modi's campaign will be taken forward by all the monasteries across the state. The ministers and government officials also across India wielded broom and swept streets and offices as part of Modi's pet project.
