End dynastic rule, says Modi in Kishtwar's rally

Kishtwar, Nov 22 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi while addressing a massive rally in poll-bound Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar on Saturday urged the people to unshackle themselves from the yoke of dynastic politics. Without naming either the Congress or the National Conference, Modi said that the state had been held hostage by two families for over 50 years. The Assembly polls in the state will start from November 25 and end on December 20. The results will be out on December 23. Nov 22, 2014

Authorities begin dredging drive in River Jhelum in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 22 (ANI): The irrigation and flood control department in Jammu and Kashmir started a dredging drive in River Jhelum, which overflowed in September and flooded the region, killing hundreds and marooning villages. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Roads in Srinagar, Kashmir's main city, were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. Hospitals were also flooded when the Jhelum River burst its banks and staff scattered around the city were unable to get to work. On Saturday chief engineer of irrigation and flood control department, Javed Jaffar, said that around 35000 cusecs of water also has to be discharged from the river during the dredging drive in order to widen and deepen it by desilting. Meanwhile, a resident Ibrahim Junaid hailed state government's efforts, saying the drive will deepen and widen the river. Nov 22, 2014

Siliguri, Nov 22 (ANI): A fire broke out on Saturday in a special train carrying police officers deployed on election duty in Jammu and Kashmir while it was travelling near Siliguri. No casualties have been reported till now, said the police. The train was carrying police officers on election duty to Jammu and Kashmir. The fire that suddenly broke in one of the general compartments was brought under control with the help of two fire engines. Railway officers rushed to the spot to investigate the cause of the fire.
