BSF ensures water-tight security along international borders

Gandhinagar, Nov 30 (ANI): India's paramilitary Border Security Force top official on Sunday ensured water-tight security along the borders with reconstruction of fences and other safety measures being taken where ever needed. Addressing the media in Gandhinagar district of Gujarat, Inspector General of Border Security Force, Santosh Mehra said a large number of technical experts have been involved for the purpose. Hailing the achievements of the Border Security Force, Mehra said it is due to their efforts that Pakistan was kept at bay along the Gujarat border during the Indo-Pakistan war of 1965.

Irfan Pathan remembers Phillip Hughes

Mumbai, Nov 30 (ANI): Indian cricketer and fast bowler Irfan Pathan remembered Phillip Hughes who died after being struck on the head by a bouncer while playing a domestic match at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Hughes died in hospital in Sydney on Thursday, two days after he was struck on the head, casting a pall over a cricket-mad nation which is co-hosting the World Cup early next year. Pathan said that the cricketing world had lost a great talent. Pathan recalled the incident when his bouncer had hit Zimbabwe batsman MA Vermeulen back in 2004. Cricket balls are roughly the same shape and size of a baseball but harder and heavier. Fast bowlers regularly bowl at speeds of 140kph and short-pitched balls, known as 'bouncers', are often used as a tactic to intimidate batsmen. The funeral of Hughes, will take place in his hometown of Macksville on Wednesday (December 3).

Artists from India and Pakistan share stage during music festival to bolster bilateral ties

Amritsar, Nov 30 (ANI): A 41-member delegation of Pakistani artists shared stage with their Indian counterparts during a joint cultural festival 'Saanjh' in Amritsar city. The event is likely to bring the peace building process back on track. With an aim to bolster the bilateral ties and restart the peace building measures, which were derailed by the recent skirmishes along the international border, the event brings together cultural artists of both nuclear-armed neighbours with a positive note. The festival is being organised by centre for preservation and promotion of heritage Punarjyot in collaboration with its Lahore-based counterpart Rafi Peer Theatre Workshop (RPTW). Meanwhile, Punjab Governor Shivraj Patil who was present at the festival, said peace will come not with fights but maturity. Indian artist Geetan said that the event had provided an opportunity to share stage with renowned artists such as Sufi singers from Pakistan.

Kolkata, Nov 30 (ANI): BJP leaders on Sunday said that democracy and justice prevailed as party President Amit Shah is all set to address a rally in Kolkata. The Kolkata high court allowed Shah to hold the rally after the municipal corporation, police and fire department refused permission after inspecting the venue. The court ruled the party could hold its rally and named two special officers to ensure the BJP complies with the rules. Party leaders said that ruling TMC in West Bengal tried in all possible way to stop BJP spread its wings in the state, but could not hold on to it for long. Siddharth Nath Singh said that state CM Mamata Banerjee is scared of Modi wave spreading in West Bengal but now she will have to deal with the same.

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Sunday after Prime Minister Narendra Modi advocated the concept of 'SMART' policing, and discussed the need of an efficient intelligence network that does not need any arms and ammunition to run the government at a conference of DGPs and IGPs. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the country needs police reforms as well as judicial reforms. Former DGP Prakash Singh said that PM Modi gave new definition to 'SMART' which if followed will reform the police.

Christians in Kochi hail sainthood conferred on Carmelite priest, nun

Kochi, Nov 30 (ANI): Over 50,000 people throng Kerala for Thanksgiving Mass to commemorate the sainthood conferred on the Carmelites, priest Chavara Elias Kuriakose and nun Euphrasia Eluvathingal, by Pope Francis in Saint Peter's Square in Vatican City. Followers of the faith flocked at Rajagiri Valley in Kerala to celebrate the public function. Pope Francis conferred sainthood on two Indians and four Italians on November 23, saying their "creative" commitment to assisting the poor had laid a path for others to follow. Apostolic Nuncio of India, Archbishop Salvatore Pennacchio, who inaugurated the public meeting, praised the Kerala Church for its significant role in evangelisation.

Uttarakhand CM urges Modi govt to release funds for Clean Ganges mission

Rishikesh, Nov 30 (ANI): Uttarakhand Chief Minister Harish Rawat has demanded quick release of funds from the central government with the aim to expedite the country's ambitious project of clean Ganges mission. Rawat inaugurated the two-day WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) Summit on Saturday, on the banks of River Ganga to lay emphasis on the cleanliness drive. Addressing the inaugural session, Rawat said that maintaining sanctity and purity of River Ganga was a top priority of the state government. Rawat sought aid from the Bharatiya Janata Party government led by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi for cleaning of River Ganga, which is a part of the much touted ‘Clean India mission'.

BSP pulls up UP Govt. over Farrukhabad SHO's death

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Sudhindra Bhadoria on Sunday lashed out at Akhilesh Yadav- led Samajwadi Party (SP) Government in Uttar Pradesh for supporting nefarious elements in the state. Condemning yesterday's incident when an on duty Station House Officer (SHO) was shot dead in Farrukhabad, Bhadoria said that whenever the Samajwadi Party (SP) is in power the police is supposed to cooperate with the goons. SHO Rajkumar Singh was shot dead while trying to apprehend a history-sheeter in Farrukhabad last night. According to reports, he was rushed to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital in Farrukhabad, where the doctors pronounced him dead on arrival.
