Modi said that the government should take steps to ensure the family welfare of policemen. He also gave a concept of'SMART' police saying that the policemen should be S- Sensitive and Strict, M-Modern and Mobile, A-Alert and Accountable, R-Responsive and Reliable, T-Techno savvy and Trained; thus being'SMART' overall.

Forty Indian prisoners released from Karachi jail return back home

Amritsar, Nov 30 (ANI): 40 prisoners released from Karachi jail in Pakistan returned to India. The prisoners including 35 fishermen and five civilians reached Punjab via Wagah Border. Pakistan had released the Indian prisoners on Friday as a "goodwill gesture". The prisoners said that they were happy and thanked the Indian government for securing their release. The fishermen had been arrested for illegal fishing in Pakistani waters. One prisoner was arrested for illegally crossing the border. Pakistan and India routinely detain fishermen from entering each other's waters for fishing. They mistakenly enter other's waters as there is no demarcation of maritime boundaries.

Fifty people affected in separate gas leak incidents in Bhopal and Meerut

Bhopal/ Meerut, Nov 30 (ANI): Fifty people were affected in two different gas leak incidents in Bhopal and Meerut. Thirty five workers of a chemical plant in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh were affected after chlorine gas leaked in the plant at Speciality Organics Private Limited factory. The exact reason for the gas leak is not known yet. Meanwhile, in another incident in Meerut of Uttar Pradesh, gas leak at a meat packing factory affected 15 women workers. The affected women were rushed to City Hospital. Out of the 15 affected, five are said to be in critical condition. The meat packing factory, called Al Alia, is owned by former BSP leader, Shahid Akhlaq.

Workers Party of Bangladesh demands ban on Islamist party, speedy trial of war crimes

Dhaka, Nov 30 (ANI): The leaders of Workers Party of Bangladesh held a rally in Dhaka to demand ban on main Islamist party, Jamaat-e-Islami, and speedy trial of the war criminals to build a secular nation. The 1971 war of liberation, in which an estimated three million people died in nine months, is a festering wound not only for those personally affected, but also for many young Bangladeshis. Leaders and hundreds of party workers held placards and flags at the rally demanding ban on militant forces. A former leader of Bangladesh's ruling party was sentenced to death by a war crimes tribunal on November 24 in connection with atrocities committed during the country's war of independence from Pakistan. The war crimes tribunals have angered Islamists who call them a politically motivated attempt by Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to persecute the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami, a key part of the opposition coalition.

Bhopal's toxic legacy lives on, activists urge govt to address woes

Bhopal, Nov 30 (ANI): An activist working with Bhopal gas leak victims, Satinath Sarangi, said that even 30 years after the industrial disaster the government has not been able to provide the victims the necessary relief and rehabilitation. On the night of December 02, 1984, the factory owned by the US multinational Union Carbide Corp accidentally leaked cyanide gas into the air, killing thousands of largely poor Indians in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh. Thirty years later, the toxic legacy of this factory lives on, say human rights groups, as thousands of tonnes of hazardous waste remains buried underground, slowly poisoning the drinking water of more than 50,000 people and affecting their health. Sarangi, who is the founder and managing trustee of charitable Sambhavna Trust and a member of Bhopal Group for Information and Action, admits that government has not been able to provide the tragedy survivors with right treatment. Meanwhile, managing trustee of non-profit organisation, Chingari Trust, Rashida Bee, shared her experience of providing therapies and working for rehabilitation of special children born in families affected by 1984 Bhopal Gas Tragedy.

Northeast festival in New Delhi sends a message of national integration part - 2

New Delhi, Nov 30 (ANI): ‘Insurgence to Resurgence’ was the theme of the 2nd edition of the “Northeast Festival - Connecting People, Celebrating life”, at the Indira Gandhi National Center for Arts in New Delhi. The 4-day long cultural extravaganza was organised by Trend MMS, with support from the eight northeastern states, Union Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of DoNER and the Northeast Community, Delhi. Sportspersons from the northeast who won medals at the recent Commonwealth and Asian games were felicitated at the inaugural session. Leaders, policy makers and various stakeholders came together for discussion sessions on critical issues including tourism, employment, business opportunities and investment in IT sector in Northeast. Fashion designers from the region put together a vibrant show showcasing the traditional weaving patterns, rich colorful fabrics and jewelry worn by the numerous tribes of the Northeast. The audience was later treated to a wide range of musical performances by popular bands like Minutes of Decay, Mayukh Hazarika and the Brahmaputra Balladeers and Frisky Pints.

Security forces recover huge cache of arms and ammunitions in Kashmir

Doda, Nov 29 (ANI): Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Doda district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday (November 29). The security forces busted a militant hideout from where an AK-47 rifle, 12 bore guns, grenades and ammunitions were recovered. Last week also Indian army had recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition in Kupwara and Baramulla districts of the state before the assembly elections began. Stray incidents of violence have been seen in the valley in the wake of assembly elections. The five-phased assembly polls began on November 25. The results are due on December 23.

Defence experts say govt should deal carefully with arrested ISIS suspect

Chandigarh/ Bhopal, Nov 29 (ANI): Arif Majeed, who was detained by National Investigation Agency (NIA) at Mumbai airport on suspicion of being an Islamic State (IS) militant, was produced in court on Saturday (November 29). Majeed, who belongs to Maharashtra and was one of the four youths who went to Iraq, was detained on Friday (November 28). Reacting to his arrest, Lieutenant General (retired) Srinivas Kumar Sinha said there is a need on the part of intelligence agencies to be more careful. Meanwhile, Lieutenant General (retired) PN Hoon advised the government to set up a research think-tank to follow such incidents of cross-border militancy.

Blast in Manipur kills one

Manipur, Nov 29 (ANI): One person was killed in an explosion in Manipur on Saturday (November 29). The blast came a day ahead of Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to the state. The victim, an 11-year-old boy, was playing in a farm land when the explosion took place. The bomb is reportedly said to be planted by militants, though no militant group has claimed responsibility so far. Security officials are investigating the matter. Modi would be attending an event in Manipur on Sunday (November 30).
