EC briefs about voter turnout in third phase of elections in J and K and Jharkhand

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): The Election Commission of India on Tuesday briefed about voter turnout in third phase of assembly polls in Jammu and Kashmir and Jharkhand saying polls were conducted peacefully in all constituencies. Deputy Election Commissioner for J and K, Vinod Zutshi said that voter turnout in the state for this phase was 58%. Meanwhile, Deputy Election Commissioner for Jharkhand, Umesh Sinha said that voter turnout in Jharkhand was recorded at 61%.

15 undertrial prisoners try to escape while being escorted to jail in Chaibasa, 2 killed in police f

Ranchi, Dec 9 (ANI): Two undertrial prisoners have been killed in police firing on Tuesday when more than 15 undertrails tried to escape from the police van while they were being taken back from court to jail in Jharkhand's Chaibasa. The incident took place around 4pm. Over 15 prisoners including some hardcore Maoists have escaped from the jail. All exit points in the district have been sealed and police have launched a manhunt to nab them.

DCW questions Uber authorities, demands how services became operative without govt's consent

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): Delhi Commission for Women on Tuesday summoned Uber cab services authorities for questioning them. The General Manager Gagan Bhatia said that he is extremely sorry for such an incident. DCW Chairperson Barkha Shukla said that Uber authorities were questioned on various aspects like the basis on which they hire a driver for cab. She said that the authorities answered that the rape accused driver was completely eligible as per the requirements of Uber. She also said that the only demand from government is to look into the matter as how the foreign companies come in India and start doing business without the government's consent.

Niigata/ Yokohama, Dec 9 (ANI): Niigata Plain in Japan was affected by regular floods restricting farmers to produce harvests only once in three years. Having ill-drained land below sea level, it was in need of drainage facilities. Few decades ago, EBARA Corporation installed many drainage pumps, including Shinkawa-kako Drainage Pump Station, which is undergoing renovations after 40 years. The company has installed a big impeller which can drain 40000 liter water per second. The facility has 6 pumps which makes it one of the nation's largest pump stations. Today, the Niigata Plain is one of the most famous rice growing areas in Japan.

Christians take out procession to mark Virgin Mary festival in Visakhapatnam

Visakhapatnam, Dec 09 (ANI): Thousands of devotees gathered for a procession in Visakhapatnam to celebrate Feast of the Immaculate Conception. The festival holds great significance for Catholics. Feast of the Immaculate Conception marks the special way in which Virgin Mary herself was conceived. Catholics believe that Mary was made immune from sin at the moment of her conception. The Feast celebrates Mary's creation by normal biological means, however god acted upon her soul, keeping her immaculate at the time of her conception. Devotees took out a procession and walked to a chapel to celebrate of the festival, which also indicates that the countdown to Christmas has begun. Archbishop of Visakhapatnam, Mallavarapu Prakash, offered prayers in the morning at the cave on the hill.

Issue not about Uber, rules must be followed by all: Association of Radio Taxis

New Delhi, Dec 09 (ANI): The Association of Radio Taxis on Tuesday said that after Uber is banned; all cabs must not be seen with the same perspective. President of Association of Radio Taxis, Kunal Lalani said that all procedures of ensuring safety in cabs are followed by the association. Meanwhile, Founder Member of the association, Rajiv Vij said that the rules and regulations laid by the state governments must be followed by all taxi organisations.

Congress targets BJP after Gadkari opposes ban on web-based cab services

New Delhi, Dec 9 (ANI): The Congress on Tuesday slammed the BJP for making false promises of making Delhi safer for women. A day after the international taxi-booking service Uber was banned over the alleged rape of a woman by one of its drivers, transport minister Nitin Gadkari opposed the idea of banning other web based cab services as was suggested by Home Minister Rajnath Singh.
