The U.K. prime minister was speaking on 16 August, the day after US President Donald Trump claimed that anti-fascist protesters were partially to blame for violence at a far-right rally. Trump has come in for criticism since he made these latest controversial remarks, with Republican Senator John McCain tweeting Theres no moral equivalency between racists and Americans standing up to defy hate and bigotry.
