Sharif was speaking at a press conference following an all-party meeting in Peshawar in the aftermath of Tuesday's militant attack at a school. Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan who was present at the press conference also attended the meeting despite several differences with the government.

Govt calendar will help take forward Clean India Mission: Arun Jaitley

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday unveiled Indian government's calendar for the year 2015, which is a convergence of two projects - Clean India Mission and Digital India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched Clean India Mission in October with an aim to modernize sanitation within five years. At the launch programme in New Delhi, Jaitley was accompanied by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting, Rajyavardhan Singh Rathore and Broadcasting Secretary Bimal Julka. A digital version of the calendar was also launched. Jaitley said the digital calendar will promote Digital India, a government's initiative to integrate the departments and the people across the country to ensure effective governance reducing paperwork. Digital India initiative also includes plan to connect rural areas under high-speed internet networks.

Peshawar attack: Never seen in my life that people can be so inhuman, says Doval

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Condemning Peshawar's terror attack and expressing shock over the killing of innocent school children, National Security Advisor (NSA) Ajit Doval on Wednesday said he has never seen or heard in his life that people could be so inhuman. Doval even visited the Pakistan High Commission in the national capital and wrote a condolence message over the Peshawar attack. He also extended his condolences to Pakistan High Commissioner Abdul Basit. The Tehreek-e-Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attack. The Taliban spokesman said that it was a revenge for the military's operation against militants in the North Waziristan tribal area.

Supreme Court allows Sahara to continue with its normal business

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): Supreme Court on Wednesday said that Sahara should continue with its normal business and there is no prohibition from the court. Lawyer said that the court has allowed Sahara to raise the second junior loan against the foreign properties situated in New York and London. He added that the documents which were illegally rejected by Sebi will be considered by the Supreme Court. The next hearing of the case has been scheduled to January 9.

Life freezes in Kashmir as temperature drops below zero

Poonch, Dec 17 (ANI): Life came to a standstill in Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday after temperature dropped below zero. Residents of Poonch district are finding hard to fight the cold as the temperature was recorded minus five degrees Celsius due to rain showers and snowfall. Icy winds and fresh snowfall in the hills has influenced many parts of northern India. The cold wave has also forced people to stay indoors and keep themselves warm with bonfire. A resident, Mohammad Shafiq, said they are finding it difficult to cope with the current weather conditions. Another resident, Mohammad Basheer, said the winter chill is affecting their daily routine.

SC asks Centre to take its permission before appointing Central Vigilance Commissioner

New Delhi, Dec 17 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday asked Centre to take its permission before appointing Central Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). The apex court directed the government to form a panel of 15 names for consideration for the post of Chief Vigilance Commissioner (CVC). It further directed that the named be submitted to it in a sealed envelope by January 15, 2015. Earlier on the issue the court had rapped the Union government for lack of transparency in the selection process of chief vigilance commissioner and vigilance commissioners, following which government gave the assurance that no final decision will be taken without its nod.
