Jayalalithaa sentenced to four years jail, fined Rs 100 cr in Disproportionate Assets case

Bangalore, Sep 27 (ANI): Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa on Saturday was sentenced to four years prison and slapped with a fine of Rs100 crore after being convicted by a City Special Court in the 18-year old disproportionate assets case under the Prevention for Corruption Act. Jayalalithaa has also been debarred from contesting any elections for the next ten years. She has also lost the MLA's post and will have to step down as Tamil Nadu Chief Minister. Squash team lead by Saurav Ghosal bags third gold for India in Asiad

New Delhi, Sep 27 (ANI): Indian Men's Squash team lead by Saurav Ghosal clinched the third gold medal for India on Day 8 of the Asian Games 2014 in Incheon, South Korea. With this victory, India bagged its maiden gold medal in the squash event in the Asian Games 2014. The men's team defeated Malaysia by 2-0. Non-profit body conducts coastal cleanup drive in Andhra Pradesh

Bangalore, Sep 27 (ANI): A special court in Bangalore on Saturday convicted Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa in the 18-year-old disproportionate assets case. A special court in Bangalore dealt a big blow to the AIADMK leader, who has become the first chief minister to be convicted in a wealth case. The quantum of sentence is expected to come soon. Police baton charge AIADMK workers raising slogans in support of Jayalalithaa

Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 27 (ANI): Workers of Tamil Nadu's ruling All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) party were baton charged and later detained by Bangalore Police on Saturday for raising slogans in support of Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa. Jayalalithaa is currently in the city to hear the verdict in an almost two-decades-old disproportionate assets case against her. The protest started from Tamil Nadu's Hosur City, where the police checked a bus for AIADMK supporters on their way to Bangalore. Devotees perform 'ancient Garba' to please Goddess Durga during Navratri
