Indian army provides medical care to boy injured in firing in J and K

Srinagar, Jan 2 (ANI): A boy who was seriously injured when security forces opened firing at a vehicle he was travelling in Jammu and Kashmir, thanked Indian army for providing him proper medical care. 19-year-old Zahid was injured in his right leg in an army firing in Chattergam in Budgam district in November when the vehicle he was travelling in with four other people did not stop at checking points. Zahid and one of his friends were injured and taken to army base hospital for medical treatment. As the boy got ready to leave for home after a period of almost two months, he said he didnt miss home as he was well looked after and visited by family members regularly. General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Kashmir-based 15 corps of the Indian army, Lieutenant General Subrata Saha was also present at the hospital and expressed happiness to see the boy recover well.

Bezbaruah Committee report: Home Ministry acts on slew of measures

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): The Home Ministry on Friday announced that it was working to implement the recommendations of the Bezbaruah Committee, which was constituted to look into the concerns of people from the north-east. As per the committee's recommendations, Delhi police will appoint 20 police personnel from each north-east state and police exchange programs will also be initiated. He said the people from the north east will also get compensation and financial assistance under the Delhi Victim Compensation Scheme, 2011. The Bezbaruah Committee was formed in the aftermath of the shocking killing of 19-year-old Arunachal Pradesh student Nido Tania in a Delhi market.

Suspense continues over government formation in J-K, BJP asserts importance

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party once again said on Friday that no stable government would be possible in Jammu and Kashmir without the party's participation, even as the suspense over government formation in the state continues. Two days ago, People's Democratic Party (PDP) chief Mehbooba Mufti, the leader of the largest party, had also met the Governor. After the meeting, Mehbooba Mufti appeared to lean towards the BJP as she invoked former prime minister Atal Behari Vajpayee's vision and said Prime Minister Narendra Modi "has a big responsibility" towards the state. In the five-phased recent state assembly polls, the PDP won 28 seats in the 87-member Jammu and Kashmir assembly; the BJP won 25, while the National Conference and the Congress won 15 and 12 seats respectively. The majority mark was 44, which none of the four political parties achieved. So far, no party or combination of parties, has staked claim to form government.

New Delhi, Jan 02 (ANI): US Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard on Friday met Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in New Delhi to boost economic ties. Gabbard is the sole Hindu member of the US Congress. On her maiden visit to India, which commenced on December 15, Gabbard met Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj. Train services on Mumbai Central Line hit

Mumbai, Jan 02 (ANI): Services of local trains in Mumbai were affected on Friday after an overhead cable wire fell down on the tracks. According to reports, the incident happened on the local central line. A local train broke down at the Thakurli station, near Kalyan, in Thane district. There were also reports of stone pelting and torching of vehicles by disgruntled commuters in and around the Diva Station. Police had to resort to a mild baton charge to discharge agitating crowds that had gathered in the station's vicinity to protest over the delay in the plying of trains. Apart from Diva station, the other stations where services have been affected are Thane and Thakurli. Further details are awaited.

Two injured in crude bomb blast in Burdwan

Durgapur, Jan 02 (ANI): At least two people were injured in a crude bomb blast in the Durgapur area of the Burdwan district in West Bengal. According to the media reports, the explosion took place when some individuals were trying to assemble crude bombs. The injured have been shifted to a local hospital for treatment. The police have not been able to find any terror angle to the blast. Investigation is ongoing and further reports are awaited.

Hosiery factory in Ludhiana catches massive fire, no casualties reported

Ludhiana, Jan 02 (ANI): A massive fire broke out in a hosiery factory in Ludhiana city causing heavy losses, but no casualty was reported. Fifteen fire tenders were rushed to douse the fire which gutted the factory. The fire quickly spread through the five-storey building. Fire officials said no worker was inside the factory when fire broke out. Raj Kumar, a fireman, said it took around five hours to douse the fire. Owner of the factory, Rajiv Kumar said that the fire was massive and loss will be huge.
