Need to bring FDI in road infrastructure, says Nitin Gadkari

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Transport minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday that there is a need to bring Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in road infrastructure to meet international standards. Addressing a meeting of state transport ministers in New Delhi, he said India must undertake the advanced road network development planning as have been adopted by many advanced countries. He also emphasized upon bringing in e-governance to have a corruption-free system and developing multi-modal transport system. Fierce gun battle on between security forces and militants in Kashmir

Handwara, Oct 28 (ANI): A fierce gun battle broke out between security forces and militants in Handwara district of Jammu and Kashmir on Tuesday (October 28). Three militants are suspected to be hiding in a village in the district. As per media reports, Indian army launched a joint search operation with the police on Monday night (October 27). The militants fired upon the security forces after which the forces retaliated, reports said. No casualties have been reported so far. Oct 28, 2014

Burglars rob bank in Sonipat by digging tunnel, probe on

Sonipat, Oct 26 (ANI): Burglars robbed a bank in Sonipat after digging a tunnel, said a senior police officer on Tuesday. Robbers broke into the locker room of a branch of state-run Punjab National Bank by digging a 100-feet long tunnel from a nearby unoccupied decaying house. Deputy Superintendent of Police, Rajiv Deshwal, said teams had been formed to investigate the crime after registering the First Information Report (FIR). Bank Manager, Devendra Malik said that the extent of loss cannot be estimated at present. Some of the bank customers were inconsolable, as they lost their precious ornaments and gems. Oct 28, 2014

If left with little shame, BJP should hold fresh elections in Delhi: Kejriwal

Ghaziabad, Oct 28 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party chief Arvind Kejriwal on Tuesday said that if BJP is left with little shame, then it should dissolve the legislative assembly of Delhi and hold fresh elections. Kejriwal's statement came after the Supreme Court slammed the Central government as well as the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung, for delay in taking decision regarding government formation in the national capital. He added that people in Delhi are troubled by electricity and water problems, which the AAP government had resolved during its rule. SC informed about President's consent on Govt. formation by BJP in Delhi

PM Modi holds talk with Vietnam PM to boost ties

New Delhi, Oct 28 (ANI): Vietnam Prime Minister, Nguyen Tan Dung, met his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi in New Delhi on Tuesday (October 28) to boost bilateral and regional ties. Earlier in the day, Dung received a ceremonial reception at Presidential Palace, Rashtrapati Bhawan. Dung, accompanied by his wife, Tran Tanh Kiem, also visited the memorial of Mahatma Gandhi and paid rich tributes. Dung arrived in India on Monday and began his two-day visit by landing in Bihar where he visited holy town Bodh Gaya and paid obeisance at Mahabodi Temple, believed to be the site of Lord Buddha's enlightenment. Hindu devotees in Gorakhpur throng markets to prepare for 'Chhath'

Gorakhpur, Oct 28 (ANI): Thousands of Hindu devotees in Gorakhpur district of Uttar Pradesh thronged markets to buy the traditional items required to celebrate the Sun God festival, 'Chhath'. A devotee Bimla Mishra said that the festival is very important and is considered extremely auspicious. The Chhath, celebrated on the sixth and seventh day after Diwali, is significant for married women who observe a three-day fast and standing in waist-deep river water, present religious offerings to the Sun God. According to tradition, on the first day, devotees, mostly women, take a dip in the river and begin fasting. Another devotee, Manju Tripathi, said that devotees fast for the fulfillment of their wishes. On the second day, rituals are performed at home. Chhath is considered an extremely auspicious festival by the people of Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. The festival has also gained popularity in metropolitan cities like Kolkata, Pune and Mumbai, too, where there are large numbers of migrants from Bihar and Uttar Pradesh. Oct 28, 2014

Politicos react after reports say BJP likely to be invited to form govt in Delhi

New Delhi/Mumbai, Oct 28 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Tuesday after media reports hinted over Governor Najeeb Jung getting nod from President Pranab Mukherjee to invite the single largest party BJP to form government in Delhi. Congress Party leader JP Aggarwal alleged that LG Najeeb Jung was acting under pressure. AAP leader Manish Sisodia said that LG Najeeb Jung should re-think over the issue. He added that if BJP forms its government, then it would not be beneficial for the people of Delhi. BJP leader Sambit Patra said that if any offer comes from LG Najeeb Jung to form government then BJP will give an appropriate reply in accordance with the constitution. Police bust militant module in Kashmir, arrest two members

Sopore, Oct 28 (ANI): Police busted a militant module by arresting two members in Jammu and Kashmir, said a senior officer. Superintendent of Police, Abdul Qayoom, said the module was set up by Pakistan-based militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba and used to provide logistics to the extremists in Sopore district. Militants have been frequently attacking security bases in Kashmir since the 1990s, when there was a full-blown insurgency against Indian rule in a region over which India and Pakistan fought two of their three wars.
