India's star javelin thrower Neeraj Chopra won a gold medal in Sottevile Athletics meet here on Tuesday. The 20-year-old covered a distance of 85.17 meters to finish on top of the podium. Earlier, the Commonwealth Games gold-medalist had given a dazzling performance and finished at the fourth spot in the first edition of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League 2018 in Doha breaking the national record with a throw of 87.43 meters. However, he failed to conjure up the magic in the subsequent edition, which was held in the USA and finished at the sixth spot in the tournament.

England put up a strong all-round show to thump an underwhelming India by eight wickets in the series-deciding third and final One-day International (ODI) at the Headingley cricket ground here on Tuesday. Leg-spinner Adil Rashid's triple strikes in the middle overs helped England restrict India for a below par 256/8, despite captain Virat Kohli playing a 71-run knock. Then India's bowlers could not respond to brilliant batting from Joe Root (100 not out) and Eoin Morgan (88 not out), who shared an 186-run stand for the third wicket as the hosts cantered to a big win, with 5.3 overs to spare. It was England's second consecutive win as they bounced back strongly after the first ODI loss in Nottingham before they produced a handsome win at the Lord's.

India's Vinesh Phogat clinched the gold medal at the Spanish Grand Prix wrestling tournament, thrashing Natasha Fox of Canada 10-0 in the final of the women's 50 kilogram freestyle category here on Sunday. It was a cake walk for the Indian wrestler via technical superiority to clinch the gold medal. The Canadian wrestler never looked in contention as Vinesh dominated proceedings right from the start. The Indian built up a 10-0 lead in the first period itself, thus winning the bout by technical superiority.

England dominated with both bat and ball to defeat India by 86 runs in the second One-Day International (ODI) at Lord's here on Saturday. Having posted a total of 322/7 in their 50 overs, England proceeded to dismiss the visitors for 236 runs. The hosts have now levelled the three-match series at 1-1. India had thrashed England by eight wickets in the series opener. The only bright spot for India was the fact that former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni reached two personal milestones during the game by completing 10,000 runs and 300 catches. The veteran star joined Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and Rahul Dravid as the only Indians reach the 10,000-run mark in ODIs. Dhoni is currently on 10,004 ODI runs. Sachin tops the list among Indians with 18,426 runs, Ganguly is second with 11,221 while Dravid is third at 10,768.

Serbian Tennis ace Novak Djokovic on Sunday defeated South Africa's Kevin Anderson 6-2 6-2 7-6 (7-3) to clinch his fourth Wimbledon title here. This is Djokovic's first Grand Slam victory in more than two years. Anderson saw a nervous start, striking a forehand long at 30/30 and then double faulting at break point to gift Djokovic the first game. Djokovic won 12 of the first 15 points to seize early control of the final. Although Anderson looked more competitive in the game, Djokovic kept the upper hand in longer rallies and kept his opponent on the backfoot with changes in groundstroke pace.
