Fundamentalists block road to democracy in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 02: Trains were attacked, crude bombs were hurled and vehicles were torched by violent BNP-led Jamaat protesters to oppose the announcement of Parliamentary elections in the country. The Election Commission wants to hold elections on January 5 next year, but BNP-led 18-party alliance is boycotting it and is demanding non-party interim government to oversee the contest. The 48-hour long nation-wide strike by Khaleda Zia-led BNP and its allies paralyzed business, education and health facilities across the country. Around a dozen people were killed in violence and over 50 injured. Protesters attacked the Election Commission offices in Bogra, causing damage to offices, official papers and voters ID cards. Miscreants damaged railway tracks and signal system in Brahmanbaria and Mymensingh which disrupted train services on Dhaka-Chittagong and Mymensingh-Netrakona routes. Dec 2, 2013

Two women Maoists surrender in Odisha

Malkangiri, Dec 02 (ANI): Two women Maoists surrendered before the police in Odisha alleging harassment and torture by their seniors, said Deputy Superintendent of Police, Pramod Kumar Das. According to Das, the two women had joined the rebel outfit in 2012, and they had been imparted training for handling different weapons. The two were also engaged in various programmes and cultural activities as part of their strategy to woo the youths of the area. AP cops thrash murder suspects in public view

Guntakal, Dec 02 (ANI): In a shocking incident, police in Guntakal town of Andhra Pradesh allegedly thrashed four accused suspects arrested for murder in full public view. The police led by Deputy Superintendent of Police E Supraja, reportedly took the suspects to a crowded bus depot of the town, which was apparently the crime spot and beat them mercilessly. Road accident kills seven in Gujarat

Anand, Dec 02 (ANI): A road accident killed seven people and injured several others after a vehicle carrying labourers collided with a truck in Gujarat on Monday. The accident took place when a truck collided with the vehicle on the Tarapur-Wataman highway in Anand district. The victims who were tribals belonged to Madhya Pradesh and had come to Gujarat in search of work. The injured were immediately admitted to a nearby hospital. Narendra Modi proposes debate over Article 370, opposition says not debatable issue

Lucknow/ Srinagar, Dec 02 (ANI): A day after Narendra Modi proposed a debate to take place over the significance of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, state's National Conference party leader Mustafa Kamal said that the issue cannot be discussed in the parliament and decides the relation between the state and India. J and K's PDP Spokesperson Naeem Akhtar said that there is no debate whatsoever and that the Article is permanent part of the Constitutions. Devotees make over ten million Shiva idols for world peace

Allahabad, Dec 02 (ANI): Devotees made over ten million idols of Hindu God Shiva in Allahabad on Sunday while praying for world peace. According to Hindu mythology, God exists everywhere. With this belief, priest Prabhakaran along with his students and other devotees made idols of soil. A devotee said that sometimes they end up making more than ten million idols. Agitated Sugarcane farmers protest in Uttar Pradesh

Meerut/ Muzaffarnagar/ Lucknow, Dec 02 (ANI): Agitated farmers blocked roads in various sugarcane producing districts of Uttar Pradesh demanding re-functioning of sugar mills and clearance of farmers' dues, thereby disrupting normal life. Farmers blocked key routes, including the national highway, after a cane farmer committed suicide that led to violent protest. General Secretary of Rashtriya Lok Dal (RLD), Jayant Chaudhary claimed that the agitation was a success. Bangladesh hit by violence post BNP declared blockade over polls
