Sweets exchanged at India-Bangladesh border on Republic Day

Phulbari, Jan 26 (ANI): Sweets were exchanged at India-Bangladesh border in West Bengal on the occasion of 66th Republic Day on Monday. Officers of Border Security Force from India and Border Guard Bangladesh from Bangladesh shook hands and exchanged sweets with each other. State governors and dignitaries mark 66th Republic Day in India

Bhopal/ Hyderabad/Raipur/ Vishakhapatnam/ Lucknow, Jan 26 (ANI): Indian states on Monday observed 66th Republic Day. Madhya Pradesh witnessed the parade by the police force as the state governor Ram Naresh Yadav saluted the force and greeted them on the Republic day. Uttar Pradesh being the largest Indian state witnessed various tableaux showcasing the culture and rich heritage and also the parade by the police personnel along with flypast. Meanwhile, a ceremonial parade was also held at the Eastern Naval Command parade ground in Vishakhapatnam. Vice Admiral Satish Soni, Flag Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Eastern Naval Command, took the salute. Andhra Pradesh Governor ESL Narasimhan also addressed the state on the occasion and saluted the police force. Chhattisgarh Governor Balram Das Tandon also saluted the parade and hoisted the national flag in Raipur. Republic Day honours the date on which the Constitution of India came into force on 26 January 1950 replacing the Government of India Act (1935) as the governing document of India. Twelve dead after train collides with van in Haryana

Hisar, Jan 26 (ANI): Twelve people of the same family died and three got injured on Monday after their vehicle collided with a train at an unmanned crossing in Haryana. The vehicle, Tata Ace, was carrying 15 people when it collided with a passenger train in Barwala district of Hisar. The dead bodies have been sent to a hospital for postmortem and the three injured are also admitted in the same. Police reached the spot to inspect the accident as soon as it was informed. Republic Day celebrated peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir

Srinagar/ Jammu, Jan 26 (ANI): The 66th Republic Day celebrations in Srinagar passed peacefully, despite a call given by separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani for boycotting the occasion. The celebrations, which were held at the Bakshi Stadium in the city, began with the annual military parade and State Divisional Commissioner Rohit Kansal hoisted the national flag. Despite cold conditions in the valley, students from various schools participated in the event. Also a spectacular parade was held in Jammu region to celebrate the 66th Republic Day. Contingents of the Jammu and Kashmir Police and those of the paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Border Security Force (BSF) and Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) also took part in the celebrations. Maoists call shutdown in Jharkhand over Obama's visit

Latehar/Palamu, Jharkhand, Jan 26 (ANI): Maoists in Jharkhand called for a shutdown on Monday to protest US President Barack Obama's visit. All roads and market places were deserted as very few people dared to come out in open. Residents said they were scared of stepping out of their houses. In another Maoist stronghold Palamu district, there was a curfew-like situation with very few vehicles on roads. Transport services were hit in the district as people were stranded at railway and bus stations.The Maoists have also decided to observe January 26 as a Black Day in protest. The Maoists, also known as Naxals in India, are inspired by the political philosophy of China's late Chairman Mao Zedong.
