BSE closes points 17.46 down on July 3

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 17.46 points down to stand at 25,823.75. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 10.35 points down to stand at 7,714.80. Glenmark pharmaceuticals ltd. and Eicher Motors were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 6.56% and 5.73% along with Uco Bank and Bata India with an increase of 5.61% and 4.71% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include GMR Infra and JPPOWER with a decrease of 7.83% and 4.87% along with Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. and Unitech with a decrease of 4.70% and 4.66% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 116.11 points at 16,082.41 while the banking sector is down 32.83 points at 17,711.80 and the realty sector is down 30.87 points at 2,075.90. The Indian currency is up 0.12% at Rs 59.76 per dollar.

State Finance Ministers to meet Arun Jaitley over state-centre disagreements

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): States finance ministers on Thursday are to meet Finance Minister Arun Jaitley over disagreements on issues between centre and states. West Bengal Finance Minister Amit Mitra said that there it is important to have consensus over things before presenting the budget and that state revenue should not be affected in the process. Meanwhile, J&K Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said that there are a few disagreements which is to be resolved now with Jaitley.

Oommen Chandy meets Sushma Swaraj over stranded nurses in Iraq

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): Kerala Chief Minister, Oommen Chandy, met Foreign Minister, Sushma Swaraj, on Thursday to discuss ways to bring back stranded nurses from Iraq. Nurses from Kerala, who are stranded in Tikrit city, have called for urgent help from the Indian government. Chandy said that the government is concerned about the safety of nurses and it is doing every bit to bring them back. Meanwhile, Congress leader, Manish Tewari, accused the central government of not taking bold steps to bring back stranded nationals amid Iraq crisis.

Congress protests against Vyapam scam, demands CBI probe

Bhopal, July 03 (ANI): Leaders of Congress party protested outside state assembly in Madhya Pradesh on Thursday demanding central police probe into Vyapam scam involving many government employees who got selected through unfair means. Congress party protesters walked out of the state assembly in Bhopal and demanded resignation of Madhya Pradesh chief minister, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, over his alleged involvement in the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board (MPPEB) scam. Congress leader, Ramnivas Rawat, said central police probe is the need of the hour to ensure justice to the students. Vyapam scam, also known as Employment scam, relates to admissions in medical and engineering colleges during the period 2008 to 2010 in which many government employees are under the scanner for getting selected through unfair means.

SC rejects Asaram Bapu's bail plea

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday rejected Asaram’s bail plea in sexual assault case filed against him in Gujarat. The court asked him to approach the High Court. The apex court has agreed to hear the case on 19th of August. His lawyer said that the move is positive and argued that Asaram was innocent.

Women Activists back SC's decision to rule out automatic arrests in dowry cases

Kolkata/ Mumbai, July 3 (ANI): Many women activists on Thursday backed the Supreme Court's decision of ruling out automatic arrests in dowry cases. The apex court expressed concerns over misuse of the anti dowry law. Section 498-A of the IPC was introduced with object to combat the menace of harassment to a woman at the hands of her husband and his relatives.

Kavita Shrivastava Speaks Up Against Sc Ruling In Anti- Dowry Cases

Jaipur, July 3 (ANI): Women Rights Activist, Kavita Srivastava reacted against the Supreme Court ruling on the Anti Dowry Law. She stated that the decision, which restrained the police of all states from "automatically" arresting the accused in dowry harassment cases on the grounds of misuse, was a terrible judgment. She argued that this ruling meant the end of all arrests and subsequently the end of criminal law. She added that the judgment reflects the misogynic attitude of men in the Indian society and there is an immediate need to urge the government to move a curative petition.

Fire at Jewellery Showroom in Bangalore cause destruction worth crores of property

Bangalore, July 03 (ANI): A fire broke out at the Navaratan Jewellers showroom in Bangalore causing traffic jam on the MG road on Thursday. The fire was noticed by staff when they came to open the showroom located on the first floor of the building. At least seven fire tenders were rushed to the spot to put out the fire. No casualty has been reported though the property worth crores was gutted, said officials. Attempts are now underway to secure the valuables.

Trial run for high speed Delhi-Agra train begins

New Delhi, July 03 (ANI): With an aim to ensure high-speed connectivity between the two cities of Agra and New Delhi, the trial run of the semi-high speed train, which runs at a speed of 160 kmph was conducted on Thursday. The train will cover 200km between the two cities in 90 minutes. It would comprise 10 coaches and one locomotive. At present, Bhopal Shatabdi Express is the fastest train en route, which covers the distance in 2 hours. The semi- high speed service would tentatively be launched by November. The trial train left the New Delhi Railway Station today morning and is scheduled to reach Agra in 90 minutes.
