Heavy firing by Pakistani rangers in Mendhar, Sawjian sector of Poonch

Poonch, Oct 5 (ANI): Pakistan once again resorted to unprovoked firing in Mendhar and Sawjian sector of Poonch district on Sunday creating panic among locals. Earlier on Friday night two people were injured in Sawjian sector during the cross border firing. Panic stricken locals on Sunday said that they are awaiting assistance even as the Indian Army is responding continuously to the ceasefire violations. Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent of Police, Poonch district Shamsheer Hussain said that they are taking measures to alert civilians if they get any indication about firing from across the border. Men s hockey team receives grand welcome upon arrival in New Delhi

New Delhi, Oct 5 (ANI): The Indian men's hockey team, which won gold medal in the 17th Asian Games after defeating Pakistan, received a grand welcome upon its arrival in New Delhi on Sunday. A group of traditional dancers performed to the beats of drums. The Indian team defeated Pakistan 4-2 to win a Gold after a gap of 16 years. India, which last won the gold in the 1998 Asian Games in Bangkok, has also bagged direct entry to 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro after it beat Pakistan in the shoot out. However, the Indian team's coach, Terry Walsh, cautioned the players to continue working hard. India now has a total of 57 medals, which includes 11 Gold, 10 Silver and 36 Bronze. Superintendent of Police (SP) of Lohardaga district said that a search operation was conducted on the tip off intelligence to nab the rebels and six different SIM cards were also recovered from the arrested Maoists. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since 1960s.
