Mizoram Premier League footballer dies from spinal injuries after somersault goal celebration

Siliguri, Kolkata / Guwahati, Oct 22 (ANI): Football fraternity, condoled death of a 23-year-old footballer, who died from severe spinal cord damage after attempting to celebrate a goal with a somersault. Bethlehem Vengthlang FC midfielder Peter Biaksangzuala died on October 19 at a hospital in India's northeastern Mizoram state after the incident in Tuesday's (October 14) match in the third tier Mizoram Premier League (MPL). A veteran state level football player and coach, Joybrata Bose, said Biaksangzuala death is a big loss for the country. After scoring the equaliser against Chanmari West FC, a flipping Biaksangzuala landed awkwardly and was lying unconscious as his team mates surrounded him and gestured for help. Meanwhile, a football coach from Sports Authority of India, SK Bandopadhyay in Guwahati said that players often express themselves after scoring a goal. Meanwhile, an another former footballer, Subroto Bhattacharya, said the concerned authorities must formulate some rules to prevent such incidents in future. Oct 22, 2014

Signs range from fever and intense weakness to internal and external bleeding and the incubation period is two to 21 days.
