Arun Jaitley says BJP can change Kashmir's fate

Jammu, Dec 14 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Sunday said that only BJP can voice the concerns of Jammu and Kashmir. Addressing an election rally in Jammu, Jaitley said people had already started associating themselves with Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Emphasising on Modi's effect on people, Jaitley said even during the last general elections, he had said that election is not about arithmetic it is about chemistry. Jaitley added that it doesn't matter who becomes the state chief as religion is not important, rather vision and personality are important.

Jharkhand records 61.65% voter turnout in fourth phase of assembly elections

New Delhi, Dec 14 (ANI): Jharkhand Deputy Election Commissioner Umesh Sinha on Sunday while addressing a press conference said that the state has recorded 61.65 percent voter turnout in the fourth phase of the assembly elections. Polling took place for 15 seats and a total of 43,48,709 voters voted for 217 candidates, including 16 women. Adequate security arrangements were made at all the polling stations as many constituencies being Maoist-hit.

Two killed, one injured after speeding cab mows down policemen

New Delhi, Dec 14 (ANI): A cab driver mowed down two cops and injured another in a bid to escape checking at a barricade in Kalindi Kunj on Sunday. The cops tried to stop the speeding cab but the driver rammed into the barricade. He then mowed down the policemen who tried to stop him. According to the reports, the driver was allegedly drunk and even dragged the policemen for about 100 metres after hitting them. He was then chased and nabbed by other cops some distance away from the spot. The cabbie has been identified as Hemant from Ghaziabad and has been arrested under sections of causing death due to negligence (304A IPC) and rash driving (279 IPC). The injured cop has been admitted at the Apollo hospital.

J&K polls: BJP candidate from Shopian gets into brawl with voter.

Shopian, Dec 14 (ANI): BJP’s candidate from Shopian, Javed Ahmad Qadri, got into an argument with a voter on Sunday when polling was on for the fourth phase of Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections. Qadri slapped the voter more than once for reasons not known yet. The top BJP leadership including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah and Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh have campaigned extensively in Jammu and Kashmir for the assembly polls. The polling, which began at 8 a.m. on a dull note due to chilly weather conditions and fog in the morning, has started picking up in 16 assembly segments spread over three districts of Srinagar, Anantnag and Shopian in the fourth phase of five-phased elections.

9 charred to death, 13 injured after gas tanker explodes on Delhi-Jaipur highway

Chandwaji, Dec 14 (ANI): Nine people were burnt alive and 13 others were injured after a gas tanker caught fire and exploded on the Delhi-Jaipur highway near Beelpur village. Eight vehicles going passing through the highway at the time of accident also caught fire. The mishap caused a huge traffic jam on the national highway which was cleared in the morning. The cause of the fire is still not known and an FIR has been lodged into the matter. Further details are awaited.

'Global Tamil Organisation' conducts walkathon to spread awareness on human rights in Chennai

Chennai, Dec 14 (ANI): A civil society group called Global Tamil Organisation conducted a walkathon in Chennai city on Sunday to spread awareness on human rights. Various college students and cadets of government sponsored public service programme, National Service Scheme (NSS), took part in the event holding banners and placards to raise awareness among people about their rights. The event began by paying homage to the distinguished judge and a human rights champion, Justice VR Krishna Iyer who died in November this year. National Secretary of People's Union for Civil Liberties (PUCL), V Suresh told mediapersons that people remember Iyer for his commitment to the constitution, its principles of equality and social justice.

Nobel laureate Kailash Satyarthi appeals people to save childhood

New Delhi, Dec 14 (ANI): Nobel Peace Prize winner, Kailash Satyarthi, acknowledged his countrymen for the recognition and urged them to listen to the voice of children, while addressing a conference upon his arrival in New Delhi from Norway on Sunday (December 14). Thanking the nation and its people, Satyarthi said it is not his personal award as it belongs to all. Satyarthi received the prestigious award in Oslo on December 10.
