Union Cabinet gives nod to Telangana with Hyderabad as joint capital for 10 years

New Delhi, Sep 03 (ANI): After a Cabinet meet at Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's official residence in Delhi on Thursday, the Cabinet gave a nod to bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh and creation of Telangana with Hyderabad as the joint capital for both the states for 10 years. Home Affairs Minister Sushilkumar Shinde confirmed the same and said that a group of ministers is formed who will ensure the safety and security in all the three regions and to ensure all legal measure.

Ex Army Chief VK Singh attributes recent incidents of infiltration to intelligence failure

Tamil Nadu/ Jammu and Kashmir, Oct 03 (ANI): Former Indian army chief, VK Singh has attributed recent incidents of infiltration and cross border ambushes to intelligence failure, which has strained a ceasefire that was largely held for nearly a decade. Singh said this on Thursday while addressing the mediapersons during a panel discussion on governance issues in Chennai. Singh said that secrets are let out due to the frequent meddling with intelligence apparatus of the country. Singh further added that ceasefire violations were taking place due to the trust deficit.

British journalist hopes for free and fair elections in Bangladesh

London, Oct 03 (ANI): After concentrated rivalries between the two leading political parties the Awami League and the BNP, intensified in Bangladesh, British journalist and visiting research fellow at the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, Frances Harrison, hoped for free and fair elections in the country. Harrison highlighted the unpredictability of Bangladesh politics. Harrison expressed serious concern over the attacks on minorities, which might take place if elections were held. He also said that the Islamic parties were quite active at the grassroot level and the political parties had failed to deliver on all sorts of issues.

Former Army Gen suspects involvement of Pakistan Special Forces in Kashmir incursion

Kupwara/ New Delhi, Oct 03 (ANI): Former Army General, GD Bakshi, said on Thursday that the ongoing infiltration by Pakistan into India's Kashmir could not have continued even after being foiled without the support of Pakistan Special Forces while calling the Indo-Pak talks a strategy of Islamabad to divert New Delhi's attention. Bakshi said that the huge scale on which the infiltration was carried out, hinted on bigger motives than just seizure of Indian posts.

Defence Experts condemns Kashmir infiltration by Pakistan

New Delhi/ Chandigarh/ /Kolkata, Oct 03 (ANI): After a top army general said 30 to 40 heavily armed fighters have crossed into Kashmir from Pakistan and are holed up for the past nine days in thick forests in the area, Indian defence experts on Thursday called for an independent army and condemned the recent incursion. Experts here said that PM Manmohan Singh should resign and that army should be given more independence; while others said that India should respond strongly against the same and that it is clear that the incursions was driven by Pakistani army.

Pak's infiltration in Kashmir: Opposition demands action from govt

New Delhi/ Chennai, Oct 03 (ANI): Opposition on Thursday demanded a strong response from the central government after a top army general said that 30 to 40 heavily armed fighters have infiltrated into Kashmir from Pakistan. Lieutenant General Gurmeet Singh told a news conference in Srinagar that the fighters crossed the Line of Control and is holed up for the past nine days in thick forests in the area. The latest fighting was taking place as Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif pledged in New York last weekend to work towards strengthening a 10-year-old ceasefire that has frayed in recent months.

New Delhi, Oct 03 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) slammed Congress-led central government for delaying the formation of a separate Telangana state, which has led to protests from people in the southern region, opposing the bifurcation. The decision to break up Andhra Pradesh and establish Telangana comes ahead of elections next year and critics say the ruling party is seeking to shore up its political fortunes after dragging its feet over the explosive issue for four decades.
