There have been desperate infiltration bids, some eliminated & some foiled: Indian Army

New Delhi, Oct 08 (ANI): The Indian Army on Tuesday described the infiltration bids as desperate, some of which have been eliminated and others foiled. Northern Command chief Lt General Sanjeev Chachra said seven militants' bodies have been recovered along with a huge cache of arms and ammunition. Chachra added that infiltration of this size could not have been possible without the support of the Pakistan army.

Pranab Mukherjee returns after Turkey visit, raises terror issues: Part - 2

On Board, Oct 08 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Tuesday returned from Belgium and Turkey, and while talking to mediapersons On board, said that he held bilateral talks with the two countries on various issues including terrorism. He further said that he discussed various issues of bilateral importance, including increasing of trade relations. Mukherjee also sought Turkey's cooperation for India's bid for a permanent membership to nuclear suppliers group. During the visit, several MoUs were also signed between Indian universities and universities of Belgium and Turkey.

Keran Infiltration: Nawaz Sharif is either dishonest or ineffective, says BJP

New Delhi, Oct 08 (ANI): After Indian Army chief General Bikram Singh told that it was impossible to infiltrate the area without the knowledge of Pakistan Army, BJP leader Balbir Punj said that Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is either dishonest or ineffective and there is no use of having talks with him. He further said that terror activities from the area are directed by Pakistan. He also said that similar situation rose while Atal Bihari Vajpayee government had talks with Pakistan in the form of Kargil war and now when Manmohan Singh is having talks with Pakistan, such infiltrations and intrusions are taking place.

Tandoor case: SC commutes Sushil Sharma's death sentence to life imprisonment

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): The Supreme Court, on Tuesday, commuted former Youth Congress leader Sushil Sharma's death sentence to life imprisonment in the infamous Naina Sahni tandoor murder case. Sharma's counsel had pleaded that the case did not fall in the rarest of the rare category and had submitted the conviction was entirely based on the circumstantial evidence and death penalty cannot be awarded. Naina Sahni was the wife of Sushil Sharma, and was believed to have an unlawful relationship with Matloob Karim, an old friend of hers. Sharma was the then Delhi Youth Congress president.

India confident armed forces will deal with infiltration along Kashmir border

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin has assured that armed forces would deal with ceasefire violations and the recent infiltration in Keran sector of Kashmir. On Monday, the Indian Army had recovered a large haul of sophisticated arms and ammunition after a search operation on the disputed border in Kashmir, following gun battles with infiltrators from Pakistan for nearly 14 days. India's military is fighting the biggest group of infiltrators to cross from Pakistan in years, as heavily-armed fighters continue to cross the Line of Control in the Keran sector and are holed up in thick forests in the area. The Army has killed nearly 20 of them in the battle that began on September 23. Meanwhile, the three services chiefs on Monday met Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his official residence 7, Race Course Road in New Delhi to brief him about the operation in Keran sector along Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir (J and K).
