Police to seek maximum remand for Narayan Sai in sexual assault case

Surat, Dec 05 (ANI): Gujarat Police on Thursday stated that it would press for maximum remand of Narayan Sai, son of self-styled Godman, Asaram, who was arrested on charges of sexual assault. A court in New Delhi had granted a 24-hour transit remand of Sai along with two others to the police of Gujarat on Wednesday in the alleged sexual assault case. Sai arrived in Surat city on Thursday, as he will be produced before the court in connection with the sexual assault case against him. Meanwhile Sai's Lawyer too arrived to meet him before he was produced in the court.

Lokpal Bill: Anna Hazare to begin indefinite hunger strike on Tuesday

New Delhi, Dec 05 (ANI): Social activist Anna Hazare said on Thursday that he will begin an indefinite hunger strike from Tuesday to demand that Parliament urgently clears the anti-corruption Lokpal Bill. Hazare said that he had written to the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saying that his government had given him false assurances. In August 2011, Anna fasted for 16 days at Delhi's Ram Lila Maidan, for the anti graft bill, drawing thousands of people.

Over 80 per cent polling in Mizoram assembly elections

Mizoram, Dec 05 (ANI): Amid tight security, polling for the 40 seat Mizoram assembly was held peacefully on November 25th. Over 6.9 lakh voters including 3.5 lakh women exercised their franchise at 1,126 polling stations to decide the fate of 142 candidates. The voter turnout this year has surpassed that of the 2008 assembly elections. The counting is scheduled to take place on 9th December. For the very first time, the election commission had introduced the Voter verifiable Paper Audit Trail system for voting in 10 assembly constituencies in the state.

Pak citizens express disappointment over Nawaz Sharif's statement

Amritsar, Dec 05 (ANI): The members of Pakistan's delegation expressed their disappointment over the statement made by the nations' Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif as they arrived in India through the Wagah Border in Amritsar on Thursday. Sharif was quoted by a Pakistani English daily, the Dawn, that a fourth war could take place between India and Pakistan over Kashmir valley while he was addressing 'Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Council' in Pak-occupied Kashmir on Tuesday (December 03). To this, Indian counterpart Manmohan Singh hit back at him by saying that there is no chance of Pakistan winning a war in his lifetime.
