Kejriwal calls 'honest police' to sit on dharna, says any constitutional crisis centre's responsibil

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday sat on dharna near Rail Bhawan and called all the' hones police officers to come for dharna and protest against police officers who force them to be corrupt. Further, he said that he will sit for as long as needed and that any constitutional crisis and problem at the spot will be centre, Home Ministry and PM’s responsibility. Kejriwal is protesting against the negligence in the performance of duty by the Delhi Police and is demanding the suspension of the concerned SHOs.

Bone chilling cold disrupts normal life in northern India

Kanpur/ Jammu, Jan 20 (ANI): Spell of intense cold wave continued to sweep large parts of northern India, paralysing normal life and disrupting rail traffic on Monday. People were seen sitting around bonfires on pavements to beat the cold. Dense fog engulfed many parts of the region, causing trouble for the daily commuters due to poor visibility and dozens of trains running behind schedule or cancelled. Delhi Police stops Kejriwal's car, dharna at Rail Bhawan

New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): The Delhi Police on Monday stopped Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's car near Rail Bhawan, while he was on his way to North Block to sit on a dharna, outside Home Minister Sushilkumar Shinde's office. Kejriwal's demand is action against Delhi Police personnel for alleged negligence in performing their duty. Meanwhile, the party said that they will conduct dharna wherever they will be allowed to, be it Rail Bhawan. Police officials tried to persuade the chief minister not to proceed ahead.

BNP and Jamaat make Bangladesh 'unsafe' for minorities

Dhaka, Jan 20 : Poll-related unrest in Bangladesh shows no sign of easing. The Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its Islamist allies, especially Jamaat-e-Islami, continue to hold the country to ransom. Activists of BNP targeted the minority Hindus and torched Chapotala and Malopara villages in Jassore. They attacked their houses and shops with crude weapons and sticks, displacing around 600 villagers. Attacks against minorities were also carried out in Rajshahi, Dinajpur, Thakurgaon, Panchagarh and Gaibandha. The Hindus, under the aegis of Acharya Vivekananda Goswami International group, came out on the streets to raise their voice against the crimes committed by BNP and Jamaat activists.

Pak border trade suspended after contraband haul in Kashmir

Jammu and Kashmir, Jan 20 (ANI): India suspended border trade with Pakistan after police recovered a truck containing 114 packets of suspected brown sugar in Kashmir. The police recovered the packets from a truck said to be containing bags of almonds which was coming from Pakistan occupied Kashmir. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Baramulla range, Jaipal Singh addressed media persons and said the Pakistan authorities have refused to take back the trucks, which indicates that they had some knowledge of the contents of these bags. Singh added this is one of the biggest drug hauls in Kashmir.

Indian Coast Guard progresses on Tamil fishermen issues

Chennai, Jan 20 (ANI): Inspector General of Indian Coast Guard, Satya Prakash Sharma briefed mediapersons regarding the issues of Tamil fishermen. Sharma said that though the Indian coast guard has arrested Sri Lankan fishermen for illegal fishing in Indian waters on several occasions, they are more often let off after serving their jail term or are exchanged in lieu of the Indian fishermen who are held captive by the Sri Lankan forces. Sharma had earlier stated that a total of 52 Sri Lankan fishermen were handed over and now 151 fishermen remain with India.
