British envoy in India looks forward to enhanced trade relations between the two nations

Kochi, March 14 (ANI): The British Deputy High Commissioner in Chennai, Bharat Joshi, said on Friday that the Great British Festival, which began in Kochi, will foster United Kingdom’s goal of doubling the trade relations between the two countries. Great British festival in Kerala is organized to boost business relations between the region and UK and for encouraging innovative entrepreneurs. Joshi was speaking following the inauguration of the UK visa application centre in the city. According to the British envoy, exports from UK to India have gone up by 14 per cent and India’s export to UK has increased by two per cent. However, he pointed out that student visas in UK have declined due to the stringent visa rules in UK. To preclude visa abuse, the British government enforced stringent visa rules which resulted in a substantial decline in the number of students to UK. Inviting companies to invest in UK, Joshi added that UK is confident of starting building new partnerships between the two countries.

No lack of options in politics, rethinking to support Modi: Ramdev

Banda, March 14 (ANI): Yoga guru, an avid supporter of the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi, took a spectacular U-turn, saying he was nobody's slave and might rethink on his support to BJP. Speaking to mediapersons on Friday, Ramdev, who has been spearheading a national campaign against black money and corruption, said that the BJP will have to ensure its support on anti-graft agenda in order to strengthen bond of friendship with him. Earlier, Modi had reportedly accepted Ramdev's terms for support in January and Ramdev subsequently declared that an agreement was reached. In return, Ramdev had decided to hold mega Yoga camps across the country from March 17 to March 23, in a bid to mobilize millions of votes for Modi ahead of the general elections. Ramdev, who is disappointed with BJP’s ticket distribution, spoke on his strategies for rectifying politicos.

One killed, many feared trapped in Mumbai building collapse

Mumbai, March 14 (ANI): One person was killed and four others suffered minor injuries after a 'highly dilapidated' seven-story building collapsed in Yashwant Nagar area of Mumbai's Santa Cruz on Friday. A resident of the area said that the local municipal corporation had deemed the building unsafe for living and had given several eviction notices to the residents. Several fire engines, ambulances and a team of NDRF have rushed to the spot.

INS Sindhuratna tragedy: SC agrees to hear PIL

New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a PIL seeking a court-monitored probe into the fire tragedy in submarine INS Sindhuratna and a compensation of Rs 1 crore each for relatives of the two Navy officers who died. A bench headed by Chief Justice P Sathasivam, before whom the matter was mentioned for an urgent hearing, posted the case to March 28. The petition claimed the officers died allegedly due to technical and maintenance failure of batteries in the submarine.
