Officials claim Indian workers tortured in Iraq for posting video appealing for help

Nawanshahr, July 05 (ANI): Indian officials claimed that a few citizens were tortured by their employer in the strife-torn Iraq for posting a video in which they appealed New Delhi to evacuate them. In the video they also mentioned that they were receiving low wages and nobody is helping them to get back to India. Doctor Jasbir Singh, who is treating a victim named Rajkumar, said he was subjected to brute torture and is in a state of shock. Rajkumar, along with 14 other workers recently returned to his home at Nawanshahr town in Punjab, and has sustained injuries on his hand and chest. District official Jeevan Jagjit Kaur said the company denied food to the victim after the video was broadcast by a channel. Jul 5, 2014

PM Narendra Modi inaugurates 240 MW Uri-II hydropower project in Kashmir

Baramulla, July 5 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the 240 megawatt Uri-II hydropower project in the mountains of Jammu and Kashmir, barely a mile from the Line of Control (LoC), the de facto border dividing Kashmir between India and Pakistan. Modi dedicated the 240 MW Uri-II hydropower project to the nation built by NHPC at a cost of Rs. 2290 crore in Jammu and Kashmir. This is the second power project on river Jhelum in Uri area in Baramulla district and is located downstream of the 480-MW Uri-I project, which is already operational. Earlier in the day, Modi flagged off the inaugural train on a new stretch of railway to the town of Katra to Vaishno Devi. Moradabad, July 05 (ANI): In what turned out to be an ugly result of detention of the BJP leaders marching to attend a _mahapanchayat_ near Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, Moradabad District Magistrate Chandrakant, Senior Superintendent of Police Dharam Veer, Circle Officer Archana and four policemen were injured in heavy stone-throwing by the protesters. The clash began after the group was stopped from attending the _mahapanchayat_ which was reportedly to incite communal feelings. Shimray Asaiwo Bellrose and 17 others from Northeast clear civil services

Manipur, July 05 (ANI): 30-year-old Shimray Asaiwo Bellrose, a Tangkhul Naga who hails from Lunghar village in Manipur, is proud to have cleared the civil services examination, 2013, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. She has secured the 1106th position in the final list of the successful candidates. Bellrose has been staying in New Delhi since 2011 after completing her Msc in Botany from Manipur University. Bellrose is among the 18 candidates from the northeast who have cleared the civil services examination. Of the successful candidates, at least six are from Assam, four from Manipur, while two are from Meghalaya. Three candidates are from Mizoram and one each from Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura and Nagaland. Asaiwo believes that continuous disturbance by militant outfits in the northeast prevent the talented youngsters from achieving their potential.
