Police busted illegal gun manufacturing unit in Odisha

Odisha, Aug 12 (ANI): Acting on a tip-off, Police raided and busted an illegal gun manufacturing unit in Odisha's Angul district. A total of 31 country-made pistols and 500 rounds of live cartridges were seized from the unit that was running inside a rented house. Superintendent of police Narasingh Bhola, Angul District said that the state police acted on intelligence input on illegal trading and manufacture of arms and ammunitions and raided several areas. Bhola added that a high level probe was underway. Police have arrested five accused while the prime accused has managed to escape.

AAP demands revoking govt's orders that stripped ACB's power to probe govt employees

New Delhi, Aug 12 (ANI): Aam Aadmi party demanded revoking of orders issued by the ruling BJP government that stripped the Delhi Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) of its powers to probe government employees for bribery. The move was aimed at clipping the powers that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government invoked to book two petroleum ministers earlier this year. AAP leader Sanjay Singh said that they demand immediate repealing of the notification which the government had issued. This notification gave the ACB a free hand to probe offences under the anti-corruption law in Delhi, irrespective of who is involved. Moreover, he added that the High Court had ordered the Reliance industries to support the investigation.

China's take on powerlines erection not confirmed: Virbadhra Singh

Shimla, Aug 12 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh said that China's decision of not permitting to lay power lines along the international border has not been confirmed officially. Reportedly, the lines were being laid near Shipki village in the Indo-China border, where cross-border trade commences. Accoring to reports, Chinese patrol close to the Lukma post monitored by Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) recently objected to erecting poles in the region for electricity provision. They sought that the poles be built inside India and not on the border. Meanwhile, Former state Chief Minister Prem Kumar Dhumal condemned the move by China and said India should immediately act on the matter.

JEC students protest against govt's decision to affiliate college to ASTU

Jorhat, Aug 12 (ANI): Students of an Jorhat Engineering College (JEC) in Jorhat city of Assam staged a protest demanding the state government to take back its decision of affiliating their college to the newly formed Assam Science and Technology University (ASTU). Protesting students said the clauses as given by the government were unacceptable and demanded amendment of the same. Few clauses that were unacceptable by the students were provision of excessive power to the central authority (Chancellor), paid membership in the university, political interference in university's affairs, improper fee structure and decision of affiliating autonomous colleges to ASTU.

National flag business booms in Tamil Nadu ahead of Independence Day

Coimbatore, Aug 12 (ANI): Several days ahead of the 68th Independence Day celebrations in India, the national flag business booms in Coimbatore city of Tamil Nadu. Over two lakh cotton flags were produced in the state last year and this year in wake of the new government, the Indian flag manufacturers have produced over three lakh tri coloured flags. The flag printers in Coimbatore claim that they produce around 5000 flags daily and this year they are working day and night and hence their labour also has doubled. Jayakumar, a flag manufacturer, said that the flags manufactured by them are sent to various southern states and to various cities in Tamil Nadu itself.

Independence Day Flower Show mesmerizes visitors in Bangalore

Bangalore, Aug 12 (ANI): A floral replica of the royal Mysore palace at the Independence Day Flower Show in Bangalore city left visitors mesmerised with its beauty and grandeur. Lal Bagh palace holds the Republic Day Flower show in January and the Independence Day Flower Show in August every year. The Independence Day Flower Show in Bangalore is currently the 200th edition, which was inaugurated by the state chief, Siddaramaiah and will continue till August 17. The major attraction this year is a replica of the royal Mysore Palace and the Dassara procession made of three hundred thousand roses. Elephants, horses and soldiers made of flowers are also on display at the show. The palace is 45-feet long, 12-feet wide and 27-feet high.
