Politicos hope Modi's Japan visit to be better for India

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Political leaders on Friday hoped that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Japan will turn out to be beneficial for India. Congress leader Manish Tewari said that tours are commonly taken by Prime Minister and Foreign Minister but it would be better if they bring something beneficiary for the nation. NCP leader Tariq Anwar stated that such trips help in establishing stable relations between India and foreign countries. BJP leader Shahnawaz Hussain said that Japan has always been a friendly nation to Modi and it will be a fruitful trip.

BJP and RSS supports Najma Heptullah's remark even as others condemn the same

New Delhi/ Lucknow, Aug 29 (ANI): Even as other political leaders and Muslim clerics condemn Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah's remark, BJP and RSS came out to support the minister on her remark. Heptullah had said that there is nothing wrong in calling Indian as Hindu on which she stood by and said that she had used the term' Hindi' and not 'Hindu'. BJP's Spokesperson Sambit Patra said that she must have meant cultural unity in her statement. RSS Ideologue Rakesh Sinha said that Heptullah had said the right thing and that 'Hindu' signifies India and is its identity and that every religion should accept the same. Meanwhile, Congress' Manish Tewari and NCP's Tariq Anwar condemned the same claiming that such remarks can divide the 'secular India'. Muslim Cleric Maulana Khalid Rasheed Firangi also slammed the remark.

IPL fixing: Justice Mudgal committee submits interim report

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Mudgal Committee on Friday filed its probe report in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2013 spot-fixing and betting scandal. The committee submitted its report to the Supreme Court. The committee filed its report in a sealed envelope and the apex court will hear the case in connection with the scandal on September 1.

Bijnor, Aug 29 (ANI): Alarmed by the by-election results of Uttarakhand and Bihar, the Bharatiya Janata Party constituted a high-profile team to lead the party’s campaign for the Uttar Pradesh bypolls scheduled next month. The party named Muzaffarnagar riots accused Suresh Rana as in-charge of Bijnor assembly seats while in other assembly constituencies, the local BJP leaders have been given prominence. Gwalior judge sexual harassment case: SC stays inquiry against MP HC Judge, issues notice to him

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to consider a plea by a former additional district judge of Gwalior in a sexual harassment case, demanding a fresh inquiry levelled by her against a High Court judge. The court ordered a stay on the inquiry by a panel set up by the Madhya Pradesh High Court Chief Justice. The Supreme Court also issued notice to the accused High Court judge.

Manipur Governor VK Duggal tenders his resignation

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): Manipur Governor VK Duggal tendered his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee late Thursday night becoming the ninth governor to do so since the NDA government assumed office in May. Duggal was appointed as the governor of Manipur in December last year. After resigning from the post, Duggal said that the move has not come under pressure from anybody and said that he resigned on his own accord. Politicos, women activists condemn gangrape of minor in Delhi, demand strict action

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): A minor girl was abducted and gang-raped at knife-point allegedly by five people in east Delhi's Madhu Vihar on Wednesday night. According to reports, three of the rapists were minors, who were known to the girl and one of them is believed to be her friend. On Thursday, the Madhu Vihar police apprehended two of the three juveniles accused and arrested another 35-year-old man. The remaining two accused, including a minor, are still evading the law. Teams of the east Delhi police are looking for them. Meanwhile women rights activists and politicos have condemned the crime and asked for strict action in the case.

Forest guards kill poachers at Kaziranga National Park in Assam

Assam, Aug 29 (ANI): Forest guards gunned down two poachers at Kaziranga National Park famed for its one-horned rhino, in Assam. Kaziranga Divisional Forest Officer SK Seal Sarmah said patrolling forest officials confronted a group of poachers, which led to exchange of fire. The thick-skinned, one-horned Indian rhinoceros is one of the five surviving rhino species in the world. The global conservation group WWF estimates there are less than 3,000 animals left in the world. They are found mostly in northeastern India, with a few hundred in neighbouring Nepal. The officials also recovered a rifle and handmade gun.

New Delhi, Aug 29 (ANI): After Minority Affairs Minister Najma Heptullah's statement wherein she said that there is nothing wrong in calling Indians as Hindus sparked controversy, Heptullah said that she used the word 'Hindi' and not 'Hindu'. Heptullah said that she emphasized on the language and not in the religion and that her statement was misunderstood. She had virtually endorsed the RSS's view that all Indians are Hindus, saying there is nothing wrong with the term Hindu being applied equally to all citizens as a label of "national identity".
