Festivals in the Northeast promote unity and brotherhood

Manipur, Nov 23 (ANI): The vibrant folk dances performed by these tribal reflects their joy and happiness. The Kuki, Chin and Mizo tribes came together at the Manipur Rifles Ground to celebrate 'Chavang-Kut', the autumn post harvest festival. The thanksgiving festival shows gratitude to the almighty for a bountiful harvest with an offering of songs and dances. Audiences were enthralled by various folk and warrior dances. The main attraction was the Miss Kut 2014 beauty pageant contest. Participants from different communities, dressed in their best ethnic attires, walked the ramp. Lamneimoi Chongloi, won the tiara of Miss Kut 2014. In Shillong, 5 day-long "Nongkrem Dance" a post harvest festival of the Khasi tribe was recently celebrated at the Iing Sad the royal palace of High Priestess of the state of Khyrim. Thousands of people thronged the venue to witness the traditional rituals of Khasi tribe.

One dead in stampede at Mulayam's birthday celebration

Badaun, Nov 22 (ANI): One woman died during a stampede at an event held in Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh to mark Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's 75th birthday on Saturday. The stampede occurred when Samajwadi Party MP Dharmendra Yadav was distributing blankets among the locals on the occasion of his party chief's birthday. The number of injured is yet to be ascertained. Dazzling arrangements were made in Rampur and Lucknow by Samajwadi Party workers for Mulayam's grand birthday celebrations.

Mulayam's birthday celebrations: Stampede during blanket distribution in Badaun kills 1, Politicos r

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Saturday after a woman was reportedly killed while several others were injured as a stampede broke out in Badaun during Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav's birthday celebrations. The incident took place when Samajwadi Party leader Dharmendra Yadav was distributing free blankets to the people. BJP's UP unit President Laxmikant Bajpai said that if the resources are less then this kind of incident occurs. Former MP Shahid Siddiqui said that the incident is unfortunate and the government should have made proper arrangements.

Saradha Scam: TMC MP Srinjoy Bose remanded to CBI custody till Nov 26

Kolkata, Nov 22 (ANI): Trinamool Congress MP Srinjoy Bose, who was arrested by the CBI in connection with the multi-crore rupee Saradha Chit Fund Scam, was remanded to CBI custody till 26th November on Saturday. Exposition of sacred relics of St Francis Xavier begins in Goa

Goa, Nov 22 (ANI): Scores of devotees converged in coastal state of Goa on Saturday to witness 17th exposition of St Francis Xavier relics. The last exposition was held in 2004. The XVII solemn exposition of the sacred relics will go on till January 04, 2015. The 44-day long exposition of St Francis Xavier, fondly referred to as 'Goencho Saib', began on Saturday with an inaugural ceremony and a procession to shift the relics from the Basilica of Bom Jesus to the Se Cathedral for public veneration. Bishop of Mangalore Aloysius D’souza, who is the main celebrant at the solemn Pontifical Mass addressed the gathering, who came from daily prayers. The exposition is held in every 10 years and this is the 17th event after the first one was held in 1782.

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari on Saturday anointed his son Shaban Bukhari as Naib Imam at the Jama Masjid. Over 100 religious leaders from India and abroad attended the ceremony. The 19-year old Shaban Bukhari is pursuing his bachelors in social work at Amity University. The post of Naib Imam puts him in the line to become the Shahi Imam of the Jama Masjid. The Delhi High Court had earlier stated that anointment of Shaban Bukhari as successor to Shahi Imam has no legal sanctity; however, it had refused to stay the anointment ceremony.

J and K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah hits out at opponents for demanding polls in flood hit state

Bandipora, Nov 22 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Saturday hit out at his opponents for demanding elections in the state in wake of massive floods. Abdullah alleged that central ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), opposition Congress party and state's main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), didn't care for distressed people. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Roads in Srinagar, Kashmir's main city, were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. Meanwhile, Abdullah also replied to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's allegation that state government was enmeshed in corruption. All states in favour of interlinking rivers: Uma Bharti

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti on Saturday said that all the states, barring one or two, were in favour of inter-linking rivers, while addressing the 'Jal Mathan' conference. Bharti inaugurated the national conference, 'Jal Mathan', which will take up consultations with state irrigation ministers, secretaries for water resources. The three-day conference will also discuss issues like water security, water projects, farm water management and rejuvenation of water bodies. Bharti said the government would address concerns of the states and environmentalists. She said that even though the society was in favour of inter-linking rivers, environmentalists had apprehensions.
