SC extends Jayalalithaa's bail by four more months

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday extended bail of Former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa by four more months in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa, who has appealed against her conviction in a corruption case, will remain on bail till April. The court also asked chief justice of Karnataka High Court to constitute a special bench to expeditiously decide Jayalalithaa's appeal within 3 months. The SC also ordered that the case be heard on a day-to-day basis. The matter came up before the Supreme Court on Thursday, counsel for Jayalalithaa, KTS Tulsi informed the Chief Justice HL Dattu, that in compliance with the earlier order of the apex court, Jayalalithaa had already submitted all the appeal papers before the Karnataka High Court. New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Thursday attended the ongoing parliament session in New Delhi. Banerjee is on a visit to the capital and said she was here to see President Pranab Mukherjee who is not well and also to congratulate her party members on Lok Sabha victory. She claimed that TMC is the only party which is not linked to any scam. SC refuses to interfere with Bombay High Court order that stays Maratha reservation

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday refused to interfere with the order of the Bombay High Court which stayed the move to grant 16 per cent reservation to Marathas in public service and educational institutions in Maharashtra. Earlier, the Bombay HC had cancelled the previous Congress-NCP government's decision of giving 16 percent reservation for Marathas. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis had later advocated for Maratha reservation and approached the Supreme Court. The court said that it will take decision after listening to all the pending petitions. Politicos congratulate ISRO for successfully launching GSLV Mark-III

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): Politicos from various parties on Thursday congratulated the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) scientists for successfully launching the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark-III from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota in Andhra Pradesh. This is the first time that such an exercise has been conducted by the ISRO scientists. The GSLV Mark III weighs 630 tonnes and is powered by liquid and solid fuel engines while the cryogenic engine at the top is filled with liquid nitrogen. Mamata says will keep up attack on NDA govt in Parliament, politicos react

New Delhi, Dec 18 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has said that Trinamool Congress will continue to protest against the BJP-led NDA government in Parliament over what it claims is the political vendetta unleashed against the party in connection with the Saradha scam. Bannerjee reached Delhi on Wednesday. Mamata is visiting Delhi to meet President Pranab Mukherjee, who recently underwent coronary angioplasty.
