Navratri begins with religious fervour in India

Bhopal /New Delhi/Lucknow, Ayodhya /Jammu, Sept 25 (ANI): Devotees across India thronged the temples on the first day of Navratri when Hindus worship mother goddess Durga in all her manifestations. Navratri, derived from the ancient Sanskrit words 'nine nights', falls this year from September 25 to October 03. People stood in queues early morning on Thursday as they visited temples to seek the blessings of mother goddess Durga. Devotees celebrate the festival with religious fervour as they pray before the idol of the goddess, sing religious songs and perform aarti while observing fast. During one of the biggest Hindu festival celebrated across India in different forms and names, temples are beautifully decorated with flowers, leaves, petals, lights and the priests ornate idols of goddess Durga with new clothes and jewellery. Meanwhile, a priest at a temple in New Delhi said on the first day of the festival the goddess Durga is worshipped in the form of Shailputri or daughter of king of mountains. Sep 25, 2014

Cabinet gives nod to clean India mission

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): Cabinet headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave nod to clean India mission, 'Swacch Bharat'. Law and Justice Minister, Ravi Shankar Prasad, told reporters that number of plans were piloted during the Cabinet meet. The Programme consists of components for providing individual household, community and public toilets and municipal solid waste management in all 4041 statutory towns. The Cabinet also approved setting up of Clean Ganga Fund with voluntary contributions citizens, NRIs and Person of Indian Origin toward the conservation of the river Ganga. This initiative would supplement Namami Ganga Programme. The Cabinet also approved restructuring of the "Nirmal Bharat Abhiyan" (NBA) into "Swachh Bharat" Mission (rural) by a perfect synergy for clean Ganga (Ganges). Sep 25, 2014
