Law student allegedly raped, beaten in Meerut; condemning reactions flow

New Delhi/ Chennai, Feb 09 (ANI): A 22-year old law student was allegedly raped by her landlord for refusing to have a baby with him and beaten up in Meerut. Condemning reactions from social activists and political leaders flowed on Monday over the incident. Social activists Annie Raja, Sudha Ramalingam and Abha Singh condemned the law and order for such crimes which are taking place on daily basis in the country. Congress leader Kiran Chaudhary said that women are not at all safe in the country with the increase in crimes against them. BJP leader Srikant Sharma also condemned the shocking incident. Singapore President meets Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Singapore President Tony Tan Keng Yam met Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj in New Delhi on Monday. Yam arrived in national capital on Sunday on a four-day visit to commemorate the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries. President Yam, who is accompanied by his wife Mary Tan, will also inaugurate an exhibition, "The Peranakan World: Cross-Cultural Art from Singapore and the Malacca Straits" at the national museum in New Delhi. As per media reports, Yam will also launch the Singapore-India Commemorative Book published by the Institute of South Asian Studies. New Delhi, Feb 09 (ANI): Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje among other state chief ministers attended the first NITI Aayog meeting headed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Delhi. Presenting her views at the first meeting of the Governing Council of NITI Aayog, Raje suggested for allowing the states to prepare and implement various development projects as per the regional conditions and providing central funds for such schemes. Raje also suggested for setting-up an empowered-committee under the NITI Aayog for coordination and resolution of issues of various projects initiated by various ministries and state governments. She also suggested to restrict the number of centre-sponsored schemes to 10 and to allow the states for utilisation of rest of the funds for such central schemes. Feb 9, 2015

Bengaluru, Feb 09 (ANI): Indian-origin musician Ricky Kej won Best New Age Album trophy for collaborated album, 'Winds of Samsara', at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards on Monday. Kej, 33, who hails from Bengaluru shared the trophy with co-composer South African flautist Wouter Kellerman. Kej's father, Gyan H Kej said he was proud of the achievement. Gyan Kej added that the musician was self-taught. The album has been described as the one featuring 'peace and positivity' in life. Rohtak police arrests eight accused in Rohtak rape case, Haryana CM assures proper action against th

Rohtak/ Faridabad, Feb 09 (ANI): Haryana police on Monday arrested eight accused in Rohtak and promised action in case of any lapse by its personnel. In a grim reminder of the December 16 gang-rape in Delhi, a 28-year-old mentally-challenged woman from Nepal was brutally raped and murdered and her body dumped in a field at a village on the Rohtak-Hisar Highway. Haryana DGP YP Singhal said that total of eight accused of the nine are arrested and that the police will try its best that accused get stringent punishment.
