Indian security forces launch massive anti-Maoist drive in poll-bound Jharkhand

Gumla, Nov 12 (ANI): Indian security forces have launched a massive anti-Maoist operation in poll-bound Jharkhand to prevent any untoward incident in the election process, stated a senior officer. Jharkhand police officials held a meeting with senior officials of neighbouring Chhattisgarh in one of the worst rebel-infested Gumla districts in the country, which will go to polls on November 25, to devise an effective plan. Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of police, Praveen Singh, assured that electorates wouldn't feel threatened by the ultras. Maoists have called for boycott of the five-phased polls in Jharkhand that begins from November 25 and end on December 20. The results would be announced on December 23. Doctor involved in sterilization surgeries in Bilaspur taken into custody

Bilaspur/ Raipur, Nov 13 (ANI): Doctor RK Gupta, who conducted sterilization surgeries on 85 women in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur District, has been taken into custody. Gupta had been suspended on Tuesday on the orders of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh after the incident came to light. Earlier it was reported that the death toll in the sterilization tragedy rose to 13 with the death of another woman. More than 50 women, who were left in a critical state after undergoing sterilization operations, are undergoing treatment at four different hospitals in Bilaspur. A team of doctors from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) is in Bilaspur to attend to critical patients.
