San Diego Zoo burns $1m worth of illegal rhino horns

To make a stand against animal poaching and wildlife trafficking, San Diego Zoo burnt more than $1m worth of illegal rhino horns on 8 September. In the past storage compounds in other countries have been raided, so zoo staff decided the best way to ensure that the horns do not end up on the black market was to burn them. The ashes from the fire will be spread throughout Africa. The burn comes just before World Rhino Day on 22 September. Sep 9, 2016
