Congress stands strong over LoP post

New Delhi, July 8 (ANI): The Congress party stood strong over leader of opposition post in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday. The Congress in an effort to strengthen its claim is planning to send the letter to Speaker Sumitra Mahajan even as it is circulating a memorandum articulating its case for the post among its pre-poll allies. Senior Congress leader Mallikarjun Kharge said that according to law his party deserves the post as it has the appropriate numbers. Meanwhile, BJD leader Jay Panda said the discretion of granting the post lies in hands of the Speaker of the house. However, CPI leader, D Raja said debate over the post of leader of opposition should not be dragged over technicalities in the parliament. As per laws, the main opposition party in the house must have at least ten percent seats for the Leader of Opposition post. Congress has only 44 lawmakers in a 543-member house. Jul 8, 2014

Hague along with British Finance Minister, George Osborne, arrived in New Delhi on Tuesday to meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi followed by meetings with Finance Minister Arun Jaitley along with other business leaders. Earlier in the day, the British ministers visited the Gandhi memorial in New Delhi and paid obeisance to the global icon for peace. The arrival of Osborne and Hague is the latest in a series of high-profile visits by foreign governments keen to build strong relations with Narendra Modi and to position themselves for a possible further opening up of India's defence industry. New Delhi, July 08 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 517.97 points down to stand at 25,582.11. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 163.95 points down to stand at 7,623.20. MCX and Berger Paints were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 4.36% and 2.66% along with Bajaj Holdings and Cadila Health with an increase of 2.34% and 1.63% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Unitech and Jaiprakash Associates Ltd. with a decrease of 12.54% and 9.82% along with IFCI and MMTC with a decrease of 9.47% and 9.30% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 367.98 points at 15,838.12 while the banking sector is down 413.67 points at 17,195.13 and the realty sector is down 150.04 points at 1,945.73. New Delhi, July 8 (ANI): Congress leaders and workers staged protest against Railway Minister DV Sadananda Gowda outside his residence in New Delhi on Tuesday. Party protested against Gowda over his maiden Rail budget and shouted anti- party slogan. The party workers tried to stop Gowda's car while the police personnels were trying to control the crowd. Congress leader Mukesh Sharma also stepped on Gowda's name plate and demanded rolling back of rail fares by the government.Another party leader Haroon Yusuf said that the budget is in direction to benefit Enterpreneurs like Adani and Ambani.
