On 10 October Louis Therouxs debut film My Scientology had its general release in the UK. The documentary maker has had a long running fascination with the subject, and the film takes an in-depth and controversial look at the religion. Scientology is a relatively new religion founded by Ron Hubbard in 1954. The film is controversial as often the subject is avoided for fear of retribution by Scientologys followers. Scientology claims to offers a precise path leading to a complete and certain understanding of one’s true spiritual nature and one’s relationship to self, family, groups, mankind, all life forms, the material universe and the spiritual universe.
