Bangladeshs opposition continues nationwide strike over polls

Bangladesh, Dec 04 (ANI): The main opposition Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) and its rightwing allies have extended their nationwide strike for two more days, seeking postponement of polls even as violence raged on. As a result of the flaring violence at least six people were killed and 30 injured in Chittagong and Chandpur regions of the delta nation.

Delhi Police on Narayan Sais arrest

Narayan Sai is being trapped: Asaram's Spokesperson

Ahemdabad, Dec 04 (ANI): Asaram’s spokesperson Uday Sangani on Wednesday said that Narayan Sai will cooperate with the judicial procedure and he is not running from the law. Self-styled godman Asaram's son Sai, who had been escaping arrest in a sexual assault case in Surat, was nabbed by Delhi Police on Wednesday. Foreign Secy Sujata Singh to visit Bangladesh fostering strong bond between two nations

New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): In the midst of political deadlock and violence gripping Bangladesh over the polls, Indian Foreign secretary is scheduled to visit Bangladesh for fostering strong bond between the two countries. Foreign Ministry spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin said that Foreign Secretary, Sujata Singh would meet Bangladeshi PM, Sheikh Hasina and leader of main opposition, Khaleda Zia during her visit ahead of the nation’s polls. Akbaruddin also said that the Foreign Secretary is likely to discuss the Constitution Amendment Bill on the land boundary agreement with Bangladesh. Singh will be undertaking her first visit to Bangladesh on Wednesday to review aspects of bilateral relationship between the two neighbouring countries.

Opposing communal violence bill will be against people's wishes: Salman Khurshid.

New Delhi, Dec 4 (ANI): Foreign Minister Salman Khurshid has backed the amended Communal Violence Bill and said that any party opposing it will be going against people's wishes. While addressing a news conference in New Delhi, Khurshid stated that the bill was for the benefit of the citizens. The Communal Violence Bill which was redrafted by National Advisory Council headed by Sonia Gandhi, after strong opposition from several parties will be tabled in the winter session of the parliament, starting Thursday.

Delhi goes to polls amidst tight security

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): National capital Delhi went to polls early on Wednesday morning amidst tight security to prevent any untoward incident. Over 1.19 crore voters will exercise their right to vote to elect candidates to the 70-member Delhi State Assembly. Over four lakh voters will cast their votes for the first time. In all, 810 candidates, including 70 females are in the fray. Voting began at 8 a.m. this morning and will end at 5 p.m. The Election Commission has made elaborate arrangements to ensure free and fair polls. Intense vigil is being maintained to keep an eye on the misuse of money and muscle power in vulnerable areas, such as slum clusters and unauthorized colonies. Out of 11,753 polling booths, 630 have been declared sensitive. For the first time, webcasting has been introduced in all sensitive booths for live monitoring of proceedings.

Asaram Bapu's son Narayan Sai arrested on charges of rape

New Delhi, Dec 04 (ANI): After a two-month search, Asaram Bapu's absconding son Narayan Sai, wanted in a rape case in Gujarat, has been arrested on Wednesday. He was arrested by the Crime Branch of Delhi police at the Delhi- Haryana border, while trying to escape disguised as a Sikh man. The 41-year-old is being questioned in Delhi. Both Asaram Bapu and Narayan Sai were booked in October for the alleged rape of two sisters from Surat in Gujarat.
