Harish Rawat named as new Uttarakhand CM

Dehradun, Feb 1 (ANI): Senior Congress Leader Janardan Dwivedi on Saturday announced the name of Senior Congress leader Harish Rawat as the new Chief Minister of Uttarakhand. Rawat has replaced Vijay Bahuguna after Bahuguna resigned from his post on Friday. Dwivedi also said that Congress President Sonia Gandhi selected Harish Rawat as new CM of the state.

Maharashtra CM inaugurates Mumbai Monorail

Mumbai, Feb 01 (ANI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday inaugurated India’s first monorail at the Wadala Monorail Station in Mumbai. Soon after flagging it off, Chavan along with Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, took 8.93 km long ride to Chembur Monorail Station. At Mahatma Gandhi Maidan in Chembur East, Chavan announced Wadala – Chembur Monorail ‘Open’. Curious and excited Mumbai locals thronged at the stations to try their luck for a joyride on Saturday but the service will be open for public from Sunday morning.

No intent of leaving UPA Omar Abdullah

Jammu, Feb 01 (ANI) Refuting the speculations on the split of Congress and National Conference (NC) alliance, Jammu & Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said that the party has no intention of leaving the Congress. He said that both the parties agree on the point that they will stay in alliance till the very end. Nabam Tuki condemns killing over land dispute in Assam

Itanagar, Feb 1 (ANI): A dispute over eviction from encroached land in Sonitpur district in Assam turned violent, killing ten people and inuring 12 others on January 29. Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister, Nabam Tuki, condemned the killings. The Chief Minister directed the chief secretary, the Director General of Police (DGP) and home commissioner to ensure every possible step to defuse the tension. The state government also dispatched teams in the disputed area to take stock of the situation.

Militant killed in overnight gun battle in Kashmir

Pulwama, Feb 01 (ANI): A militant was killed in an overnight gun battle between the ultras and security forces in Pulwama district of Kashmir, as the personnel blasted off the hideout. Security forces encircled a residential house in Pulwama district of Kashmir where the militants were hiding, the militants opened fire, which was retaliated by the Indian security forces. The militants and the security forces exchanged rounds of gunfire, forcing the personnel later to use explosives to destroy the rebel's hideout.
