Commuters in Mumbai ride on India's first monorail

Mumbai, Feb 2 (ANI): Commuters enjoyed their ride on India's first monorail in Mumbai on Sunday. This is another addition to the public transport system in the city. The monorail was inaugurated by Maharashtra Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday. Excited after his first ride, a passenger, Prakash Dave, said it was a great experience but there was scope of improvement too.

Police arrest Maoists in Jharkhand, recover arms and ammunition

Chaibasa, Feb 2 (ANI): Police in Jharkhand have arrested two hardcore Maoists and recovered arms and ammunition, during a search operation in the forests of Chakardarpur in Chaibasa district. A sub-zonal Maoist commander, Saluka Kayam, was arrested during the joint operation conducted by district police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF).

Narendra Modi to address rally in Meerut today

New Delhi, Feb 2 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi will address a rally in Meerut today. The security has been stepped up in view of the communal riots in Muzaffarnagar in Uttar Pradesh last year. A number of police personnel have been deployed. Besides bomb disposal squads, metal detectors have been set up to secure Modi's rally.

Police in Jharkhand arrest two Maoists

Gumla, Feb 2 (ANI): The police in Gumla district of Jharkhand have arrested two men for having connections with the People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI), a Maoist outfit. Speaking to the mediaperson, the superintendent of police, Rakesh Bansal, said that the accused were planning a burglary and following a tip-off, they were arrested. The men, who are in their youth, were arrested on charges of being couriers to other Maoists in the area. Maoists are rebels who try to sink deep roots and form links after decades of neglect. The Maoists, who say they are fighting for the rights of the poor and landless, control some of India's mineral-rich areas and operate in large swathes of the eastern, central and southern countryside.

Impasse over cross border trade is 'unfortunate': Omar Abdullah
