Maldives Defence Minister in India to boost bilateral ties

New Delhi, Dec 12 (ANI): Minister of Defence and National Security of the Republic of Maldives, Mohamed Nazim, arrived in India with an aim to strengthen bilateral defence cooperation between the two nations. Defence Minister of Maldives arrived in India on December 11 and is scheduled to be here till December 15. On Thursday, Nazim paid a visit to India Gate and offered tribute to the deceased soldiers at the Amar Jawan Jyoti. Nazim was also accorded the Guard of Honour and met Defence Minister of India, AK Antony. When asked about the bilateral defence cooperation between India and Maldives, Antony seemed satisfied. Commenting on the same, the Maldivian counterpart said he has come to India with the purpose of strengthening bilateral ties.

Protesters call for execution of Abdul Quader Mollah in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Dec 12 (ANI): Protesters gathered in Dhaka demanding execution of Islamist opposition leader Abdul Quader Mollah. Lawyers met at the Supreme Court's appeals division and are likely to resume arguments on Thursday. The stay on execution remains until the appeal against the death penalty is resolved. Mollah, found guilty of war crimes committed during the 1971 war of independence from Pakistan, was due to be hanged at Dhaka Central Jail just after midnight on Wednesday, but his lawyers earned a last-minute reprieve. Mollah is assistant secretary general of the Jamaat-e-Islami party, which is barred from contesting elections but plays a key role in the opposition movement led by the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP). Protesters gathered in the capital and clamoured for Mollah's speedy execution.
