Sahara chief Subrata Roy surrenders

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Sahara chief Subrata Roy was on Friday taken into police custody in Lucknow following Supreme Court's warrant against him for not appearing in court in a case linked to his alleged failure to return investors' money. His son and Executive Director of Sahara Group Sumanto Roy told that being a law abiding citizen Subrata Roy willfully decided to submit himself to Lucknow police.

Officers knew INS Sindhuratna was defective: Brother of a victim

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Two naval officers, who had gone missing after an accident on board submarine INS Sindhuratna, have been found dead. Seven crew members out of more than 60 aboard the diesel-powered vessel were airlifted to a naval hospital after inhaling smoke, but the two officers - Lieutenant Commander Kapish Muwal and Lieutenant Commander Manoranjan Kumar - could not be found. The two officers who went missing were on duty on board when smoke filled parts of a Russian-built submarine on a training exercise off the Mumbai coast in the early hours of February 26 morning. Brother of Lieutenant Commander Kapish Muwal, Aashish said the incident is due to negligence as everyone knew about the defects in the submarine and it proved to be fatal.

Iran's foreign minister blames US for thwarting its nuclear programme based on 'illusions'

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, who is on a two-day visit to India, accused US of intimidating and using pressure to thwart Tehran's peaceful nuclear programme which western countries have long suspected a 'facade' of covertly researching the means to develop nuclear weapons.Tehran denies that its nuclear programme has any latent military purposes and has signalled repeatedly it would resist dismantling its nuclear installations as part of any deal. Zarif, who was addressing a memorial lecture in New Delhi on the invitation of his Indian counterpart Salman Khurshid, lashed out at the foreign policy of the United States of using 'force' and said it will never work against any state, citing examples of Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan. Zarif added that it would be difficult for the US and western forces to win back the trust of the Iranian public.

NCP anticipates forming alliance with Congress in Goa, Gujarat, Odisha

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) is looking forward to form alliance with ruling Congress party in three states, ahead of the upcoming general elections. Even though the Congress has not stated anything, NCP leader D P Tripathi said that the talks are in process to come to a conclusion regarding the alliance in Goa, Gujarat and Odisha. Earlier in the day NCP also declared the list of 24 candidates who will contest in the upcoming general elections.

BJP-LJP form alliance: Rajnath welcomes Paswan into NDA

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) Chief Ram Vilas Paswan formally announced alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), ahead of the general elections due by May this year. BJP President Rajnath Singh welcomed Paswan into the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) to contest next Lok Sabha elections. Rajnath Singh made the official announcement at a joint news conference in New Delhi. Ram Vilas Paswan said his party will support BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for country's top position.

Hyderabad revenues will go to Telangana: Jairam Ramesh

Hyderabad, Feb 28 (ANI): Union Minister of Rural Development Jairam Ramesh said that after bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh revenues from Hyderabad would go to new state of Telangana, and that Hyderabad would serve as common capital of Telangana and Seemandhra for ten years. To compensate the second half of Andhra Pradesh, Seemandhra, for revenues trickling down to Telangana, Ramesh said that the remaining rump would be given a special category status for the coming five years aimed at promoting industrial development.

Government takes measures to ensure the safety and security of people from the Northeast in New Delh

New Delhi, Feb 28 (ANI): Munirka village in South Delhi is home to a large number of people from the northeastern states, a majority of them students. After a few incidents of attacks on people from the northeast in the city, there were rumors that a `panchayat’ in Munirka had ordered the eviction of all northeastern people from the locality. However, people in the locality have denied this, and expressed their support for people from the Northeast. The police has also assured off all possible security measures for them in Munirka and elsewhere in the capital.
