Japanese companies use ICT to boost farming

Tokyo, Mar 19 (ANI): To give a fillip to farming, companies like Fujitsu are promoting research to bring in innovation through Information and Communication Technology or ICT. In Shizuoka prefecture, the company runs a project called Akisai, a cloud computing service to support farming. In this greenhouse, various types of environmental data are collected and an appropriate condition is automatically controlled from the computer centre. Since climate change is a big concern in Japan, it is important to control the environment for greenhouse horticulture. The environmental control box is the information gateway to the computer center and is the intelligent operator of the equipment. Akisai is already used by about 160 clients, including educational institutions, where future farmers study streamlined operations and business management.

Missing Malaysia Airlines plane: Andaman boatmen asked to exercise extra vigilance

Port Blair, March 19 (ANI): Indian authorities have instructed local sailors and fishermen in the Andaman and Nicobar islands to keep a sharp eye out and sound alarm if they see anything unusual in wake of the missing Malaysian Airlines aircraft, sailors said. Whilst India has put on hold its search for the missing aircraft at the request of the government in Kuala Lumpur, which wants to reassess the hunt for the vanished plane, fishermen and local boatmen said they had been instructed to exercise extra vigilance while out at sea. Balayogi, a senior sailor on one of the civilian boats in Port Blair, said they were instructed to offer all possible help if they spotted anyone in trouble. P Madhivanan, captain and master of the boat "Lawrence", said they had been asked to immediately alert the communication centre if they found anything unusual in the sea.

BJP on Mulayam to contest from Azamgarh to counter 'Modi effect'

New Delhi, March 19 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Mulayam Singh Yadav will contest Lok Sabha polls from Azamgarh parliamentary seat along with his traditional Mainpuri seat. The move to field Mulayam from Azamgarh, a constituency dominated by Yadavs and Muslims which is near to Varanasi, is seen as an attempt to counter the BJP. It is said that by fielding Mulayam from Azamgarh, the party hopes it would have a cascading effect on other constituencies and would prevent the BJP from capitalizing on the "Modi effect." Meanwhile, the BJP said that SP is trying to polarize the society on communal issues but it will not succeed.

Police arrest two Maoists in Jharkhand

Gumla, Mar 19 (ANI): Police have arrested two Maoists working for rebel outfit People’s Liberation Front of India (PLFI) in Maoist affected Gumla district of Jharkhand. Acting on a tip off, police arrested the two Maoists from two different locations. Two pistols and three bullets were recovered from the rebels. Tuti said the two were planning to execute a crime, and the residents of the area helped in getting them arrested. Maoists are rebels who try to sink deep roots and form links after decades of neglect. They have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks.

Police arrest six militants, recover arms in Punjab

Patiala, Mar 19 (ANI): Police on Tuesday arrested six militants from Babbar Khalsa group in Punjab and recovered weapons from them. Addressing a news conference in Patiala district of Punjab, Senior Superintendent of Police, H.S. Mann, said that four weapons were recovered from the militants.
