SC says fatwas cannot be forced on people, Muslim politicos welcome move

New Delhi, Feb 26 (ANI): After Supreme Court ordered that fatwas issued by Muslim clerics cannot be forced on people and that state has to protect persons harassed for the same, muslim politicos welcomed the move. Former Samajwadi Party leader Shahid Siddiqui said that fatwa is an opinion and there is no obligation to it. Meanwhile, Kamal Farooqui said that those Muslims who are ready to go by the fatwas are not wrong, but on the same place welcomed the apex court's decision. Feb 26, 2014

Paramilitary forces kill Maoist in 'red corridor' region

Gumla/ Visakhapatnam, Feb 26 (ANI): In a joint operation paramilitary forces and police killed a Maoist in "red rebel hotbed" of Gumla district in Jharkhand. Acting on a tip-off by sources, police launched a joint operation with Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and killed one Maoist in a fierce gunbattle. The area lies on the red corridor that is worst affected by Maoist violence. Bombay HC questions on repeated paroles for Sanjay Dutt

Mumbai, Feb 26 (ANI): The Bombay high court questioned the parole extension for actor Sanjay Dutt. Lawyer Nikhil Chaudhary, who filed Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against parole granted to Dutt, clarified that the petition was not against the actor but he was addressing larger issues of equality. The court has also sought all papers based on which the paroles have been granted. The court also criticised the state government of Maharashtra for discriminating between Bollywood actor and other convicts. Dutt was sentenced to five years jail by the Supreme Court in 2013 for possession of illegal weapons in a case linked to the 1993 Mumbai bombings. Feb 26, 2014

Members of the regional Tamil National Alliance (TNA) supported Jayalalithaa's decision of releasing the three convicts after the apex court commuted their death sentence to a life term. Kupwara, Feb 26 (ANI): Indian Army recovered large quantities of arms and ammunition from seven militants who were killed during an encounter between the Indian Army and militants in forest area of Kashmir. Security has been beefed up as more militants are believed to be hiding in the forest area. Major General, General Officer Commanding (GOC) Kilo Force, SK Saini said that seven AK series weapons were recovered. On specific information, 18 Rashtriya Rifles and Special Operation Group of Jammu and Kashmir Police launched a cordon and search operation in Dardpora forests of Lolab, Saini added.
