Ecuador won 2014 FIFA World Cup clash against Honduras by 2-1

Brazil, June 21 (ANI): Jubilant Ecuador fans celebrated as their team kept their World Cup hopes alive with a 2-1 victory over Honduras in Curitiba. Two goals from Enner Valencia helped the South Americans to victory after Carlo Costly had given Honduras the lead - and scored their first-ever goal at the World Cup. But it was Ecuador who had more to celebrate as they picked up their first points of Brazil 2014. Some of their fans were so boosted by the victory over Honduras they fancied going all the way to the final in Rio de Janeiro next month. And another supporter, Kevin Alarcon, said he was sure the team would upset the odds against Les Bleus.

2014 FIFA World Cup: France fans elated by their 5-2 win over Switzerland

Rio De Janeiro, June 21 (ANI): Soccer fans on Copacabana beach were treated to a festival of goals as the France vs Switzerland game generated a stunning seven goals altogether. Rampant France sparkled in a 5-2 mauling of neighbours Switzerland in World Cup Group E clash to move closer to knockout phase four years after one of their darkest days. France, who beat Honduras 3-0 in their opening game, top the standings with six points. French fans watching the game were jubilant as their team demolished the opposition. Meanwhile, Swiss fan Yann Bohann took the pounding stoically, saying the team had showed spirit by fighting back at the end.

Militant camps still exist in Bangladesh: BSF

Agartala, June 21 (ANI): Militant camps still exist along the Indo-Bangladesh border said Border Security Force top official, BD Sharma after reviewing the security situation. Sharma reviewed the security situation along the international border during a meeting with top officials, sector and battalion commanders in northeastern Salbagan headquarter of BSF Tripura frontier. Sharma said their counterparts in neighbouring Bangladesh were fully cooperating with Indian forces in checking the militant infiltration along the porous sensitive border. He also said that the insurgents could not be fully wiped out from Bangladesh soil as deployment of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) was less than required.

2014 FIFA World Cup: Italians in Rome disappointed as they lose to 1-0 against Costa Rica

Rome, June 21 (ANI): Italians watching Italy play against Costa Rica in the World Cup group match on maxi-screens in Rome's historical centre reacted with surprise and disappointment as their side lost 1-0. Costa Rica' Bryan Ruiz's goal securing the Group D win over Italy also ensured England were eliminated. Italy brought on Antonio Cassano at halftime, but Costa Rica expertly took the sting out of the match, reducing their opponents only to glimpses of goal, while they continued to look threatening on the counter. Italian fans reacted as the maxi-screen area quickly emptied. One fan tried to keep the morale high.

SP workers halt train to protest rail fare hike

Allahabad, June 21 (ANI): Samajwadi Party (SP) workers on Saturday brought a train to halt while protesting the central government's rail fare hike. The Ganga Gomti express was brought to a halt by party workers while it was enroute to Lucknow. The Central government's decision to increase rail passenger fares by 14.2 percent and freight rates by 6.5 percent have met with a stiff resistance from opposition parties.

Controversy over Hindi wrong, unwarranted: Kiren Rijiju

New Delhi, June 21 (ANI): Minister of State for Home Affairs, Kiren Rijiju, has said that the controversy over promotion of Hindi on social media platform was wrong and unwarranted. He said that was misquoted as it was just a routine circular to promote the language and not being imposed on the states. Rijiju addressed a news conference in New Delhi and said that the circular which is constantly being cited in media reports was issued on May 27 and was a reminder to an earlier circular issued on March 10th which said use of Hindi language should be promoted on social media. He added that it was not a compulsion on the states to use Hindi language to conduct their routine business.
