India expresses concern over military coup in Thailand

New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): India expressed concern over military coup in Thailand on Friday and hoped for an urgent political resolution and restoration of normalcy based on the principles of democracy, will of the people and rule of the law.Thailand army chief General Prayuth Chan-ocha set out his plans for the country on Friday, a day after seizing power in a coup, saying reforms were needed before an election can be held and enlisting the help of the civil service. India's foreign ministry spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin, said that New Delhi was closely monitoring the evolving situation. India has also advised its troops to return home. May 23, 2014

MEA briefs about Afghanistan attack and invitation to SAARC leaders

New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin on Friday briefed about the attack on Indian envoy in Afghanistan and strongly condemned it. He also said that the entire situation is being analyzed. He added that Afghanistan PM Hamid Karzai had spoken to Indian PM-designate Narendra Modi and assured him of all possible efforts to protect Indian missions there. Akbaruddin then, highlighting the invitation of SAARC nation leaders to Narendra Modi's oath ceremony, said that invitations were sent to 8 nations out of which Sri Lanka, Maldives, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, Nepal, Bhutan and Mauritius have confirmed and response is still awaited from Pakistan. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 90.70 points up to stand at 7,367.10. Ashok Leyland and Canara Bank were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 15.22% and 14.05% along with Jain Irrigation and Syndicate Bank with an increase of 13.38% and 10.87% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Gitanjali Gems and IPCA Lab with a decrease of 4.99% and 3.40% along with Indiabulls Real Estate and Cadila Health with a decrease of 3.29% and 2.59% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 246.33 points at 14,580.74 while the banking sector is up 283.49 points at 17,523.13 and the realty sector is up 40.75 points at 1,976.96.
