Bihar Flood Threat: Politicos urge for taking measures in advance

New Delhi, Aug 03 (ANI): As a flood alert in Bihar was issued followed by evacuation of thousands of people in the wake of a massive landslide in Nepal, politicos on Sunday urged for taking proper measures in advance to ensure minimal damage. The state government has so far evacuated 20,000 people living along the embankment of the Kosi River as a 10-metre high wall of water is expected to sweep down the river from Nepal soon, officials said. Over one lakh people are expected to be evacuated by today evening.

PM Modi reaches Nepal, receives Guard of Honour

Kathmandu, Aug 03 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday arrived in Nepal's capital Kathmandu for a two-day official visit. Modi was received by Nepalese Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, senior ministers and the Indian Ambassador Ranjit Rae at the airport. The government of Nepal presented a guard of honour for Modi, leading a 112 member delegation which includes key ministers, senior government officials, business leaders as well as journalists. Modi will be holding talks with his counterpart Sushil Koirala and meet other political leaders.

PM Modi reaches Nepal: Politicos hope for strengthened ties

New Delhi, Aug 03 (ANI): Political leaders on Sunday expected strengthened bilateral ties as PM Narendra Modi reaches Nepal for his 2-day visit. BJP leader Yogi Adityanath said that international relations had been weakened in the last 10 years but now with Modi as the PM they will again strengthen. Congress leader Rashid Alvi appreciated the move and said that people are looking forward for a positive outcome of the visit. RJD leader Manoj Jha stated that people will have to wait and watch hoe Modi handles relations with Nepal. NCP leader Majid Memon said that maintaining good relations with neighbours is quite necessary.

CWG 2014: India wins first ever squash gold

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Dipika Pallikal and Joshna Chinappa, created history as the duo won a historic gold medal in women's doubles squash for India at the Commonwealth Games 2014. The duo defeated the English pair, Laura Massaro and Jenny Duncalf sealing a brilliant 11-6, 11-8 victory. India stands at fifth in the medal tally, bagging 14 gold, 25 silver and 16 bronze.

Flood threat in Bihars Kosi river, People move to safer locations

Bihar, Aug 03 (ANI): A huge evacuation drive has been launched in eight districts of Bihar and the state government has been put on high alert due to the Kosi flood threat. Bihar Government has started taking action for evacuation of people living in villages lying within the embankment area in 22 panchayats of Supaul district and other seven districts of Bihar. Relief camps including cattle relief camps are being organised for the evacuated families.

Politicos give mixed response to judges remark on introducing Hindu religious books in first grade

Ahmedabad/New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): A remark by a judge of Supreme Court stating that mythological texts of Mahabharata and Bhagwad Gita should be introduced in the academic curriculum for first standard students instead of in high school drew mixed response. Addressing an international conference, Justice A.R. Dave said that if in a democratic country everybody is good, then they would naturally elect someone who is very good and that person will never think of damaging anyone. He proposed that the Gita and the Mahabharata be introduced to students at a very early stage.

PM Narendra Modi leaves for two-day Nepal visit

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi left New Delhi for his two-day visit to Nepal on Sunday to take forward his initiative of economically integrating South Asia. Modi's visit to Nepal will be the first bilateral engagement by an Indian prime minister in 17 years. He will address business leaders and may also announce economic aid for the neighbouring country. India is also set to offer Nepal a landmark pact to help develop its huge hydro-electric power potential as the South Asian giant takes another step to re-assert influence among smaller neighbours where China has been forging closer ties.

Two suspected Pakistan-based militants sent to police custody in New Delhi

New Delhi, Aug 3 (ANI): Authorities produced two suspected operatives of Pakistan-based militant group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) before the court in New Delhi and were remanded to police custody till August 12. Delhi police had arrested suspected LeT operatives Abdul Subhan and his aide Asahbuddin on July 20 for their alleged role in conspiring terror attacks in Delhi and other areas. They were produced before the court after their remand expired and Delhi police sought the extension of their custody. LeT is a Pakistan-based militant group accused of orchestrating attacks in India, including the 2008 Mumbai attack that killed 166 people.

Dilapidated roads add to misery of people in Kashmir

Kathua, Aug 3 (ANI): Heavy rains damaged roads connecting villages in Kathua district of Jammu and Kashmir, causing sufferings to people. People alleged that roads in the district were never in a good state and government's Prime Minister Rural Roads Scheme failed to make much of a difference in these areas. Thirteen-year-old student Pooja Devi said the roads were in dilapidated condition and it had become difficult to commute.
